Probably not, but here's what today's been like...

  • TMI, but woke up this morning extremely wet. Haven't really had any increased wetness throughout pregnancy, so new to me.
  • Period pains, pretty bad ones, that last a few minutes and, tmi, they almost feel like they're almost not just in my stomach, but going so low down I can almost feel them in my BUM if that makes any sense?
  • Can't sit down. I've had this on and off - have this really heavy feeling and can't sit down as it feels like a lot of horrible pressure.
  • Feeling sick and faint.

Problem is with the pains is that I've been a lot of pain all day with standard SPDness, which can vary in the daily treats it brings, so sometimes when I've been in a lot of pain it's been difficult to actually distinguish 'different' (maybe early labour) pains, from just another variant of SPD...

Had no braxton hicks or anything at all so far, so really quite clueless about what I should be looking out for!

TIA

Welsh

Bobkins, still nothing. Nesting-wise, I had a big surge at about 35 weeks, kept it up for about 3 weeks and have now completely lost the will, which is definitely making my days go slower as, to answer your other question, what I'm now up to is nothing! My SPD's pretty bad and so trying to do as little as possible, which probably isn't helping to get things going.

I read some of my hypnobirthing book today and it talks about having 'sharp jolts' as the pubis bone moves forward and 'pulls a ligament here and there'. Given that the whole book is obviously written in code, where there's no such thing as startlingly horrendous pain, I'm beginning to wonder whether 'pulling on a ligament here and there' could be the cause of some terrible stabbing, slicing pains I've been having, which I thought were SPD, but might maybe be something good getting into place...

On the other hand though, the book goes on about what a failure I'll be if I go for a sweep, as it's an 'unnatural intervention' like any other and the beginning of a slippery slope... Oh dear. Well, I've got one booked for Saturday and can't really see myself resisting if still nothing by then...

How about you? Any news? x

superslinger don't worry about being a failure by having a sweep, that's nonsense! I had 3 sweeps! To begin with I wasn't keen on the idea but I thought if there's a chance that it could bring labour on before possibly having to be induced I'd try it! Good luck!

Hey,

Actually feel like something is happening. Lost my mucus plug yesterday morning and had more slightly bloody discharge this morning. Also, lots of pressure down there so just waiting. Have been feeling tightenings this morning so had a walk into town and now going to start monitoring to see if they become more regular. What do you think ? Do you think I need to get my partner home from work ? Xx

Flosie1989 · 08/08/2012 13:04

Ah this a great sign that things may start very soon! Grin

If it was me I wouldn't get my partner home from work just yet as it could be another day before things actually start.

You could always just ring him to let him know the latest and tell him to keep an ear for his phone just in case things do start Smile good luck!

Superslinger · 08/08/2012 13:36

Ahh bobkins, I'm soooo jealous! Well done you though! I agree call DH but don't necessarily get him home yet as could be a while (that's what I was advised at classes anyway). Keep us updated!

Thanks for the sweep advice Flossie! How far apart did you have each one, and how long after the last one did you go into labour? Any tips/ did you find it terribly painful?! x

I had the first one on the Monday when I was 40 weeks, the second on the following friday and the the third one I had in hospital when I was being induced which was over a week later. The third one I had at 4pm on the saturday and then my waters broke on their own at 10.30pm. However my contractions didn't become regular/consistent enough so had to go on the drip on the Sunday morning anyway.

The labour was painfull yes but gas and air saved the day! That's all I had and managed Smile I think what was a blessing really is that I couldn't have gas and air until I was put on the drip so I went the first 10 hours with just paracetamol. I reckon if I was given gas and air earlier I probably would have ended up having an epidural so hold on for as long as you can before gas and air, if that's your plan!

It's such a lovely experience and I'm glad I could feel everything Smile just don't think about the pain too much until it happens. Also everyone feels contractions differently, I felt all mine in my bum strangely!

You'll both be just fine Grin

Flosie1989 · 08/08/2012 17:09

Intrigued as to how you're getting on Bobkins ? Xx

Bobkins · 08/08/2012 19:30

Progressing. Had the midwife round, only 1 cm so she did a sweep and we are monitoring the contractions. Bloody hurts though ! Thanks for thinking of me x

Flosie1989 · 08/08/2012 19:52

Ahh well good luck! Fairly soon you'll have your little one in your arms Smile x

Superslinger · 10/08/2012 11:43

So regular contractions kicked in last night at about 6, got more intense and closer together til really intense and every 5 mins by 3am. But then a couple of hours later they started to die down, still really don'tknowwheretoputmyself painful, but reducing in frequency to now only once every 25 mins! What on earth is going on?! So disappointed, really thought I was getting somewhere! :(

Ah sorry to hear that superslinger have you phoned your midwife?

Bobkins · 13/08/2012 06:46

Hey, just to let you know I has a beautiful baby girl on Friday evening. Labour was horrific but worth it in the end. How are you super sling ? Xx

Flosie1989 · 13/08/2012 08:27

Oh congratulation! I'm sorry to hear you didn't have a great time of it though Sad

What did she weigh? Have you decided on a name?

Healing time is very important now. When you feel like it start mobilising a little bit more. Gentle walking will help speed your healing time up and start to ease the pain.

Bobkins · 13/08/2012 18:07

Thank you flossie. We ended up with forceps so not exactly the homebirth I had planned. Alice Ada weighed 6l b 10. She is beautiful - worth all the pain now x
