11+ weeks - what the hell do you wear???

I'm 12+2 and over the past week or so I've just exploded in size. I've put away most of my 'normal' clothes, save for a few bigger ones and even they are getting tight now. I'm nowhere near big enough for maternity clothes, of which I have stacks thanks to a good friend - but I can't justify getting new for just a few weeks.
I think I've just answered my own question.....it's a charity shop trawl for the next size up isn't it?!

I'm another one that's in the same position, my jeans and trousers still fit but they are just so uncomfy already at only 12 weeks 5 days! :S

I've taken to wearing joggy bottoms whenever I am at home but I'm interested in what people suggest too!

Glad I'm not the only one :D

AThingInYourLife · 03/08/2012 09:00

You ARE big enough for maternity clothes.

Or, more accurately, decent maternity clothes are small enough for you.

Honestly, the day you stop fighting the inevitable and start wearing clothes made to flatter and accommodate your changing shape is a very happy day. :)

scentednappyhag · 03/08/2012 09:04

I found that as soon as I gave into wearing maternity clothes, my bump looked more like a bump and less like I'd eaten too much cheesecake Grin

InchyInchy · 03/08/2012 09:04

I'm off to look for maternity clothes then, I always thought you'd have to be a lot bigger for them not to be falling off?!?!?

nellyjelly · 03/08/2012 09:08

Mothercare do an early preg range. I know mothercare are not the most stlish but I got some nice early preg jeans and combats there.

nellyjelly · 03/08/2012 09:08

Stylish I mean.

InchyInchy · 03/08/2012 09:09

Nelly - Thanks I'm off to have a look online now! :D

FreeButtonBee · 03/08/2012 09:11

Someone told me that clothes that fit you at this stage will also fit you in the first 2 months post baby so might be owrth getting a few basics.

I live in dresses for work so finding them pretty forgiving. Evenings and weekends, I live comfy leggings (have a great pair from hush that go all the way up past my bellybutton and don't go saggy) and vest tops with a slouchy l/s top over the top. Have a great one from Sweaty Betty in the sales. I've also found low slung skirts quite good too. I have a few gypsy style ones which are certainty not at the forefront of fashion but quite pretty and sit low on my hips so don't cut in.

I am 12 weeks with twins so not sure how long this recycling of existing warerobe will last but hopefully will get another 2-3 weeks out of it!

AThingInYourLife · 03/08/2012 09:13

No, they don't fall off. Most mat bottoms are adjustable.

I'm still wearing mat trousers 5 weeks post partum.

Admittedly, I probably look more pregnant that you Blush :o

ZenNudist · 03/08/2012 09:19

Hate to break it to you but I found I needed different maternity clothes as I went along. Eventually I'd even grown out of my size maternity wear and in the last few weeks was down to vv limited range of things. It depends how your bump sits as to what's comfy. I found tunic tops and leggings to be good at your stage, if you have any or dresses that fall from the bust, providing you not too booby yet! You need a decent pair of maternity jeans (I liked over the bump) at this stage you can get away with under the bump style , later they will fall down Smile. Also comfy maternity black pants, and a few bigger looser tops (I did buy some cheap size up rather than the expensive maternity basic stretchy tops) at home I just wore jogging pants. Maternity clothes are the pits but easier than trying to squeeze into too tight clothes! Try jojo Maman bebe for jeans, or mammas & pappas .

Pascha · 03/08/2012 09:19

You can do an awful lot with belly bands and hairbands to hide the undone waists at this stage. I had got the maternity trousers out by about 14 weeks though.

Don't get next size up clothes yet - they will look silly on your legs and bum.

nellyjelly · 03/08/2012 09:21

Just looked at mothercare for you but don't seem to have the 'early' range now. Sure other places do though.

AThingInYourLife · 03/08/2012 09:22

I really don't understand why you would go around with your trousers undone and held closed with a hair bobble for the sake of delaying the wearing of maternity clothes for a few weeks Confused

A good pair of over the bump maternity jeans is so much more comfortable and flattering than dressing like a fatty in denial.

Spellcheck · 03/08/2012 09:23

I share your pain. Am nearly 12 weeks, have had 3 DC and also have huge fibroids so look as though I'm six months after I've eaten. Am wearing maternity clothes now but sick of raised eyebrows when I say I'm only 3 months gone! Maternity clothes are much more versatile than they were when I had 1st DD 14 years ago.

stowsettler · 03/08/2012 09:29

Phew, thank God it's not just me! I will trawl through the huge pile of maternity clothes given to me by my mate then. I've got a couple of pairs of 'floppy' black trousers which are still fine for work (probably will be for several months yet) and a couple of dresses, but I'll pick out some of the smaller maternity stuff. Oh, and I'll google early pregnancy jeans!!
Thankfully also I have quite a few pairs of leggings, which will just have to be worn instead of jeans most of the time. I'm still fine in ludicrously high heels, so I won't look too dumpy (I'm quite short so leggings tend to do that to me).
Thanks for all the advice. Most comforting.

I second pascha's advice. A nice big bump band, with your normal jeans hidden underneath, closed by a hair bobble, instead of buttons will see you through this phase, if you don't want to buy several sets of mat clothes. Worked for me until 15/16 weeks AFAIR...

bumponboardagain · 03/08/2012 09:30

I'm in maternity jeans and 12wks here. So comfy! I'm pregnant with my 3rd dc so had some here already. They have adjustable waste bands so should expand as you do!

squidkid · 03/08/2012 09:34

I showed relatively late (19-21 weeks I guess), and managed with tactical use of my existing clothes... skater skirts and shorts with elasticated waists, trackie bottoms, harem trousers, dresses with stretch in them. I still only wear maternity clothes now and again, and I'm 33 weeks now. I swear by trainers + short skirt with comfy waistband sitting under bump + fitted maternity vest top (mine were only a few £ each from new look).

I did buy some maternity jeans quite early though. I bought a slouchy comfy pair of jojobebemaman ones for £1 on ebay at around 13 weeks -- they were huge then but so comfy and cheap I didn't care. Ebay is gold for maternity jeans, there are so many so cheap. And around 25 weeks I bought a nice well fitting pair of over-the-bump skinny jeans from asos, they are my go-to garment for stylish AND showing off bump rather than increasing size!

However I wear scrubs at work so never had to source "smart" clothes.

Oh and at your stage I did get some belly bands and they did me well for a while.

MrsHoarder · 03/08/2012 09:38

I bought a few pairs of leggings/long tops. But I was a student and so could wear whatever I wanted.

Now they're very handy for pottering around the house with DS.

Didn't get into maternity clothes until 20-25 weeks. But then I had exams etc and didn't have time to shop.

Pascha · 03/08/2012 09:49

athing it was because the waistbands of the maternity trousers in my size were all too wide. I have a very hourglass figure, when the very beginning of the baby bump started in my pelvis I could do zips up but not buttons, but the maternity trousers even on their tightest setting were all expecting me to be wider in the waist. They were just really uncomfortable and baggy and my well-worn jeans fit me everywhere bar the waist perfectly.

Maternity clothes are generally crappy anyway. I like my non-maternity wardrobe and had no wish to let go of it too soon.

DeathMetalMum · 03/08/2012 10:02

Last time around I bought a pair of jeans in the next size about that time I am alredy wearing them now at 8 weeks and also wore them for a good few months post pregnancy so it was worth it really for me. Also tunic tops/desses are a lifesaver, I am a shortie so can get away with wearing these with leggings or tights for a while. Most things I wore in early pregnancy I also wore after birth as well.

PeshwariNaan · 03/08/2012 10:50

Maternity clothes - just give in and get a pair of jeans and a top. They're not huge, trust me - by the time you need them, you need them. I was in maternity clothes from 11 weeks... and I'd bought some mat. jeans at 7 weeks to get me through!!

xmasevebundle · 03/08/2012 19:14

Look on ebay very cheap on there or sale's i got 4 maternity tops for under 30 pound they are from dort perkins.

Oh i hated it when i look fat in my tops and i had a bump made me feel like :(

Ive got one pair of maternity jeans and i hope they will last me £4.50 off ebay you cant go bloody wrong!!

Kelbells · 03/08/2012 19:28

Try New Look and H&M maternity, I got a few basics early on in my usual size, really cheaply (jeans a tenner), they looked fine, great even, if a wee little looser fitting than my usual.... I didn't think they'd still fit but at 29 weeks they're still going strong (I'm mostly bump and boobs with a little bit extra padding everywhere else now).... Just go for it I'd say... With the bloating you'll feel much more comfortable with a bit of 'give' in your clothes Smile

rogersmellyonthetelly · 04/08/2012 16:24
