In need of comfortable shoes- Birkenstocks vs fitflops

My feet and legs are now really aching and I am in need of comfy shoes. Any recommendations please? I bought some Birkenstocks yesterday but they feel hard and I wonder if I should return them. Do they get more comfy? Fitflops seem nice and soft but are not recommended in pregnancy- does anyone wear them anyway? I otherwise wear flats but they offer no support.

Have you thought about trying sketchers? As well as making trainers, they also do really confy sneakers that look more like shoes (which I have been wearing to work since 12 weeks, now 22), and some summary sandal type things too.

They are the most comfy brand of shoes I have ever bought, and have really helped me walk properly with my bad back (have had sciatic nerve pain on and off since week 11). Ok, some of their trainers are a bit bright and seemingly aimed at 12 year olds, but all of their stuff is really comfy and well made. Plus they do half sizes.

Bought a pair of Birkenstocks but couldn't wear them due to feet swelling up. Sooo painful as the straps are pushing down on your feet as you walk. I recommend looking for a very soft pair of shoes that you can get on and off easily. I had a pair of proper summer walking shoes with velcro fasteners (Nike or similar I think) and a really soft pair of moccassin style shoes. A podiatrist will tell you to wear something with a strap (so not ballet shoes). I'll be off to Clarks fairly soon for something relatively inexpensive but well made and comfy.
