First consultant appointment - pre-eclampsia

I have an appointment with a consultant the week after next (I'll be 23 weeks) because I had pre-eclasmpsia in my previous pregnancy. Does anyone know what this appointment will entail or how long I'll be there? Someone has just told me that I would probably be put on the monitor for an hour, but I find this hard to believe at this early stage. Has anyone else had consultant care due to previous pre-eclampsia? Also, what is the likelihood of getting it again?
Thank you

I had severe pre-eclampsia at 33 weeks with DC!1, and am now 13 weeks pregnant with DC2. I saw the consultant after my 12 week scan, and she put me on aspirin to try and reduce a recurrence. I will be having my urine and blood pressure checked twice a week from 20 weeks, and a couple of extra growth scans at about 26 and 32 weeks. Likelihood of getting it again depends on when you developed it/delivered last time - Google action on pre-eclampsia, they have a v good.website. Nothing too scary, I'm just trying to believe that what will be be...Good luck!

I had pre-eclampsia with ds from 28 weeks or so which resulted in him having to be delivered early at 34 weeks.

First consultant meeting at 12 weeks entailed being put on 75mg aspirin, booking extra growth scans (ds had IUGR and born teeny tiny) - one at 26 weeks, one at 29 weeks and discussing delivery options as I had to have cs last time. I have dipsticks to monitor protein at home.

If it's any help I'm 32 weeks now and my bp has been fine so far. A little on the high side but think it's more anxiety of getting it taken causes that. Never had any more than trace protein occassionally in my urine and no other symptoms of pe - long may it continue. Baby is also growing very healthily and placental function good :)

Thank you for the replies. Glad to hear that your pregnancy is going so smoothly this time ballroomblitz. Fingers crossed everything continues so well for you.

I'm hoping that I don't get it this time, but heard that it is likely to return and maybe sooner than last time, (I didn't get it until 36 weeks last time).

I wondered whether they would request further scans, but as DD was 7lb 3oz, so average sized, I'm not sure they will be too worried. Will the consultant have access to my previous notes? I don't think I'll remember all of the details.

I had it with my first pregnancy, emcs at 36+5.

Second pregnancy I had to see the consultant fortnightly I think it was for quite a while, then I developed high BP and it was twice a week for a while from about 35(?) weeks. I'd have to go in and get monitored, bloods & wee, sometimes a growth scan. They had all my notes because it was the same hospital.

I remember having a massive meltdown at 35 weeks when my BP went mental and they gave me meds... in the end I went to 39+1 (elcs) without incident and the PE never actually developed.

It was a bit of a pita going to all those hospital appointments, but due to the severity it really doesn't matter does it? When all's said and done, all you want is a healthy baby.

I felt like I'd won the lottery though getting to 39 weeks with a 7lb'er! ;)

Had regular consultant apps because of PE and IUGR last time (another teeny tiny DC here). First consultant app was just all the normal checks and discussion about care plan. I have growth scans and they check placenta and blood flow, every 4 weeks and all looking fine so far. if you developed it as late as 36 weeks I thought that meant your odds against getting it again were fairly favourable. Unless it was very severe. I find it really reassuring that I am so closely monitored, makes me feel well looked after. Good luck, hope it goes Ok, also think unlikely they will do monitoring as early as this - I've not had any yet and I am 27 weeks.

Thank you for the replies, I think I'll just have to see what he says when I get there. I didn't know if I'd be in and out or whether I'd be there for hours!
