induction worries

I am sitting at the hospital bed waiting to be induced. I am so worried. I am worried that the pain is going to be worse than normal labour. I am upset that I can't have the water birth I wanted. I am also freaking out that the poor baby will feel pain as she is being born. I am being induced because of waters breaking. I am 39 weeks.

wow! youre going to meet your baby soon!

MarianForrester · 27/07/2012 20:36

You will be fine! Lots of people are induced and gave no worse time. I was induced and can't even remember much about it now. And soon you will gave your baby Smile Try to keep mobile as much as possible, will all be ok

MarianForrester · 27/07/2012 20:37

Gave? Have, I meant, sorry

Portofino · 27/07/2012 20:37

You are going to be absolutely fine! The baby won't feel any pain. I had induction with only some pethidine and gas and air. It was entirely manageable.

SpottyTeacakes · 27/07/2012 20:38

Awww it's totally OK to be nervous. It will be OK, I was induced at 36 weeks, it was only 110 hours start to finish. I know it's disappointing not having the birth you hoped for but you will get to meet your baby girl soon. Have you thought about pain relief? :)

Loislane78 · 27/07/2012 20:39

Good luck OP! This will be me in a few weeks time and at 39 wks too so got my fingers crossed for you.

You can do it!!! :)

LostInWales · 27/07/2012 20:41

Induced with all three of mine, it was fine and nice not to be worrying about getting to the hospital whilst in agony. Good luck, you'll be meeting your baby very soon Grin

i was induced. it wont hurt more than a 'normal' labour its just more immediate, no gradual build up iyswim. it started, for me as an uncomfortable feeling. i couldnt sit properly then seconds later i crouched on the floor with my 1st contraction. after being induced dh and i went down stairs for a coffee. i never had it as it was that quick! good luck and all the best. do come back and tell us about your baby when you get a minute when shes 18/leaves home :)

I was sitting in your shoes with my second baby. I remember crying so much because I was so worried about being induced. Everything in my mind and body said no it was a bad idea and it felt like such a wrench for me to agree to it. My waters had broken quite a few days before I was induced with my DS making no effort to come out on his own! I was so worried and upset about being induced, but it looking back it was by far the best thing that happened. At the end of the day, my baby was definitely not coming out without a bit of coaxing and I can honestly say that despite my heartache it was definitely the best decision.

I too wanted a waterbirth but looking back it just didn't matter. I thought it was a bigger deal than it actually was - hindsight is a great thing!

My best advice is to trust your body to do its thing and just go with it. I lost myself in the actual labour and concentrated on my breathing. For me, it was more intense than my first (very difficult labour) but absolutely nothing my body couldn't cope with. Trust yourself and go with the flow. You can do it.

tinyshinyanddon · 27/07/2012 21:31

I was in a similar position with my first DC: absolutely terrified about making my body do something it wasn't ready to do. But things worked out fine. My advice - keep an open mind about pain management. I was dead-set against an epidural but after 24h of labor I relented. It was the best thing I cold have done. It relaxed me enough to actually dilate and deliver the baby.

Ooooo warzonemummy, I "know" you from the August 2012 thread!

Don't be worrying, I've been induced twice, and mentally preparing for it with DC3. I had a pessary and that was it! My first was back to back too, and it was grand.
Being induced does not mean that everything is going wrong. They are just starting you off-and you'll have baby soon! Yay!
Stay positive, mobile and good luck!

woopsidaisy · 27/07/2012 22:45

Should have added that had completely "normal" and straightforward births bar the being induced.
Didn't even have stitches.

mumnosbest · 28/07/2012 22:15

hope your induction went well warzonemummy and that your beautiful dd is letting you get some well earned rest x

warzonemummy · 29/07/2012 18:24

Thank you all so much. My daughter was born this morning. The induction went really well. No worries at all. But at the end I had to have emergency c section for reasons unrelated to the induction.
