Stupid question: beauty products in pregnancy

Has anyone given up any beauty products in pregnancy? I am still wearing tons of makeup (as my skin looks so crap) but I have stopped using my harsh Clinque toner as it stings my face and was worried it was bad.
Am I overthinking?

You can become more sensitive skin-wise so it's good to avoid products that now feel harsh as they may give you a reaction. Some people switch to all natural everything but I am not sure what the actual research suggests for these things! I have quite sensitive skin anyway so I'm not planning on making much change from my normal routine. HTH!

Your skin becomes more sensitive due to the huge hormonal and blood flow changes that occur. Stop using anything that doesn't agree with you anymore, and you'll prob be fine & using it again after the birth. There is no reason to stop using things if you don't have a reaction, because beauty products literally only go skin deep, so won't get into your blood stream/affect baby.

I've stopped using a toner that was stinging my skin as well.
Also stopped painting my nails after info I've read online.

Does anyone have any recommendations on beauty treatments that they've had whilst pregnant/suitable during pregnancy? I feel the need for some pampering!

My skin is more sensitive in pregnancy. Don't use it if it stings. Is that what you meant though, or are you worried about things being bad for the baby?

kidcrayola I thoroughly recommend the Clarins mum-to-be treatment. It's an hour massage and mini facial, using some really GORGEOUS products (the Tonic Oil is wonderful for dry skin and stretch marks) DH got it for me for my birthday and the whole experience was absolutely divine.

I've also had the mum-to-be massage at The Sanctuary and that was pretty fucking awesome too Grin

I'm a firm believer in serious pregnancy pampering. I aim to have another Clarins treatment before baby arrives. Probably a pedicure too.

Thanks for the replies ladies. I have toned it down a bit - moved to a more gentle toner instead of my Clinique one which is full of witch hazel and salycylic acid. Badgerina Yes, I am a bit worried it is bad for the baby.

I read somewhere that salicylic acid isn't recommended in pregnancy. I sometimes use a cleanser with it in (Murad) but have avoided it when pregnant. I suspect the amount that would actually get into your bloodstream is probably minimal, but imo there's no point risking it when there are plenty of other products out there to use in the meantime.

I am also being quite careful what I use during pregnancy, have v sensitive skin at the best of times, so trying to stick with products that are natural based. For a real treat I use Oskia eye cream and moisturiser, they are gorgeous and a friend of mine used them post preg when her skin was really bad and they really helped (she swore by putting them in firdge for an added cooling effect). I had an Oskia facial last year too which was lovely and someone told me they do at home treatments which I am considering as a real treat post birth! Otherwise I am avoiding putting anything too heavy on my skin, but I tend not too use foundations and such like anyway.

I have avoided anything containing parabens and PEGS. I usually slather myself in moisturiser and don't like the idea of absorbing loads of chemicals.

If you want to paint ur nails, Nubar is a good, safe brand (from what I know)

I love mama mio products!!
