Movement greatly varies from day to day

Some days I'm constantly feeling hard kicks, other days I just feel the odd small movement, but nowhere near as much. On one of the quiet days last week, I called t4he midwife who checked and found a very healthy heartbeat. Overall it's about half and half although sometimes I have a couple of really active days followed by a quiet one, or a couple of quiet days followed by a really active day.

So how the hell am I supposed to tell if there has been a reduction or change in movements?

I'm 27 weeks- any advice gratefully received.

I'm in the same boat - 27 weeks too and it seems to come and go. I think, although I'm not sure, that this is quite early to be counting kicks etc so I'm trying not to worry too much. I think it will get more and more consistent as the weeks go on. (happy to be corrected on this)

I'm the same! Just hit 30 weeks and it's been like this ever since I started feeling movements. Some days I see my bump move and others I just feel a few flutters and small jabs throughout the day. In fact I had been thinking I was abnormal so just today I downloaded a count the kicks app and have started monitoring. Each time I worry at home I drink really cold water and lie down and that makes him move. Midwife has checked HB at each appointment and he's fine so I wonder if some babies just don't move as much as others?

Aworryingtrend · 26/07/2012 15:32

I'm exactly the same- 28+6 and still no real pattern of movements- as you say one day is really active followed by a couple of quiet days or vice versa. Even on the quiet days though baby will respond if I have a very cold sugary drink (orange juice with ice) and lay down on my side. If this didn't happen I would ring the midwife straight away.

Still have quiet days and very active days. But have movement everyday and cold coke or ice cream seems to wake baby up .... 38+2

Same, at 31 weeks. I have a few days where she doesn't seem to stop then a few where she is very quiet. It's been a pattern since I started feeling movement. I wonder if she's quiet while she's having a growth spurt

NanoNinja · 26/07/2012 15:56

Me too at 26+4. although when he wiggles, he wigges a lot... makes it worse when he doesn't....

Londonmrss · 26/07/2012 16:06

Thanks for the responses. So how do you not fly into a panic on a quiet day? I always get really frightened, and then once I have an active day again, I tell myself not to worry on the next quiet day... but somehow can't help myself.
And how will you know if there is a reduction? If there is no response to a cold drink?

Same here at 26wks. Heavily NOT recommended by midwives but on quiet days I reassure myself using my doppler :)

ksrwr · 26/07/2012 16:58

when i was pregnant i sometimes went for 2 days at a time feeling nothing, it was terrifying. i took myself off to the docs for a scan every time, i felt like a total idiot, and like i was completely wasting their time. but i'm glad i did it... i would lose entire night sleeps worrying. i know exactly how you feel. orange juice - cold, drank in large quantities sometimes worked. also lying on one side for a while, then rolling onto the other used to get a reaction from the baby.
i totally sympathise!

trilottie · 26/07/2012 17:01

Yep, I do get panicky :)
Yesterday I did pop to the hospital to get checked out as I had noticed a vague pattern in that she would kick fairly often in the mornings and evenings while I was lying in bed, and she hadn't done that yesterday morning. Since every thread I've read on here says if you're worried, go in, I did.
They were absolutely fine about it and checked me over for about half an hour including taking a urine sample and tracking bean's HB and movement. Was very reassuring. They'd much rather see 10 worried mummies and 10 healthy heartbeats than one not so healthy heartbeat.
I have also downloaded an app which means that when I'm concentrating I can track it, and now I know that I usually get to about 10 kicks by about 1130am. However if I'm having a busy day I won't notice the kicks, which then worries me later, so its swings and roundabouts.

elizaregina · 26/07/2012 17:02

yes me too! 25 wks, loads of movement in a pattern but today very weak but happened to see mw anyway for appt and heart beat sounds good and healthy...

such a worry!

she said most hops dont monitor though at before 28 weeks....so what are you supposed to do!

farfallarocks · 26/07/2012 17:35

Me too! Some times she never stays still, others I struggle to get 10 movements in a day. It also depends on how busy I am I feel her loads more when lying down.
I think the point is to monitor what is normal for your baby and establish a pattern.
Do you have an anterior placenta (on the front?) Your scan notes might say, I do and this can muffle movements a bit. I had a scan at 25 weeks and she was moving constantly, I could not feel a thing.
If in doubt, I would go in, especially after 28 weeks.

Having had a tiny dancer in there from 14 weeks I got a bit worried the last couple of days as she went a bit quiet. Had routine MW appt today and she checked HB all was well but baby has moved sides. Might just be that but she did urge me to get checked if in doubt. I'm also a bit Hmm about the 10 kicks thing - baby was easily doing 50-60 movements+ a day so dropping to 10 would make me a bit Confused Pretty sure I read that you will get to know your own pattern and if there is a significant change it is still worth getting checked as it can be an early warning sign. In fact MW is seeing me again next week just to keep an eye on things as I noticed the change.
