Any one else going to the Olympics?

I've got athletics tickets. Very excited but starting to feel very nervous about getting across London in all the crowds and then sitting for hours in what could be a hot day and then the stress of making it back again in jostling crowds. I'm 26weeks and not gigantic yet so I think people don't always notice I'm pregnant.

Anyone else going and started to think about the logistics of getting there?

Hoping to get to the swimming next sat will be 39+4! Might be mad but really want to go .... May have chickened out by next weekend.

MayimBialik · 26/07/2012 10:50

Wow mcBaby that is brave - at least there'll be a nice pool for you to give birth in if it all kicks of Wink Do you live in London?

I live in north London and journey doesn't seem too bad. Have decided not to go to the tennis this weekend as journey is over hour and a half with more walking and much longer session!

SweetPea3 · 26/07/2012 11:48

I'm 27 weeks and have tickets for loads of events. Am worried about being really uncomfortable in the seats (hadn't even considered transport issues yet! although I live in Central London, so hopefully it won't be too bad getting there). Figured that I'll just start selling off my tickets if it's too much hassle after the first event I go to.

Also worried that it will be quite hot and steamy in the Aquatics Centre...

horseylady · 26/07/2012 12:24

26 weeks and not worried looking forward to it!!

sammyleh · 26/07/2012 12:28

Nope... got tickets for hockey in Manchester and football the next day in London (or it might be the other way round) after deliberating the travel situation and how hot its been, I've decided against it. Shame really, I'd have enjoyed it but we got them when I didn't know I was pregnant x

custardandrhubarb · 26/07/2012 12:46

I'm 26 weeks and had tickets for the swimming this weekend but have passed them to a friend as the crowds and likely heat of the venue have put me off, that and my DH who was going to come will be away. The same friend I've given the tickets to went to the "London Prepares" swimming event and said it gets really hot by the pool... perhaps he was just angling for my tickets though Blush

I am 28+5. I went to the rehearsal of the opening ceremony last night. It was great. My tips:

Take 2 500ml empty water bottles. You cannot take full bottles through security but there are plenty of water fountains around the outside of the stadium to fill your bottles from.

At security, you do not have to go through the metal detector. I was directed to a very friendly female (army) who did a careful pat down instead - far nicer than I have ever experienced at an airport.

We were up high in the stadium. The steps up to our seat were knackering so I just took my time. No one objected

If like me, you feel the need to eat almost constantly, take plenty of snacks. There is also a reasonable choice of food stalls.

Leaving the stadium was very busy. But the crowd was good natured. If you are heading to Stratford station, keep to the right side of the crowd going past the Westfield centre. Last night there was a barrier separating the crowd from a narrow separate path. As soon as the stewards saw my bump they directed DH and me to this path so we went straight past the crowd. When we got on the tube, there were no seats but an Olympic steward immediately gave me his seat.

Overall I would say don't worry. Everyone was very kind and considerate.

Going to the rowing next Wednesday at Dorney Lake. Think it's going to take aaaaages to get there and we have to be there for 8:30am! Also had a look at tickets and saw we have standing tickets not sitting! Oops! Going to wear my Bump on Board badge and stick out my tummy! Ah well - it should be good fun Grin

RunningOutOfIdeas · 26/07/2012 13:02

Mayim if your athletics tickets are for any of the higher seats (above row 30ish) you will be shaded from midday sun.

Stateofplay · 26/07/2012 13:26

Yes, I'm going to the Equestrian in Greenwich Park, will be 26 weeks. I'm flying into London. Might take a cushion to sit on, as have a bit of sciatica. Still, am very excited to be a part of it - a once-in-a-lifetime event!

Stateofplay · 26/07/2012 13:27

And thanks for the advice Running, that's v helpful. Maybe we should all post about our experiences on here as we attend events. Your VIP exit path avoiding the crowds sounds good!

blackteaplease · 26/07/2012 13:31

I'm off to the mens volleyball and will be 34 weeks by then. I'm a little worried about having to queue for ages to get in as I have SPD but apart from that I'm looking forward to it.

I'm sure the tube will be a hot and sweaty nightmare. Must remember to take something to fan myself with.

AKMD · 26/07/2012 13:39

Going to Wembley on 6th August. I'm not looking forward to it but will grit my teeth and go. I'll be 29 weeks and sticking out my bump as far as it will go in a probably vain attempt to get sympathy :o

Macaroons · 26/07/2012 13:56

Will be 34 weeks tomorrow and will be going to a few events. Should be ok I reckon so long as baby don't make an early appearance Smile

Belchica · 26/07/2012 14:09

I'll be 33 wks going to hockey next week. It's in the evening which is a relief as it should be cooler. Might bring a wee camping stool to cope with queues.

Don't forget that, annoyingly, you can't bring in your own water (at least not at the main olympic park). You can bring an empty bottle and fill up at water stations once inside. I think it applies to any liquids actually.

blackteaplease · 26/07/2012 14:11

Yep, you can only take in 100ml of liquids but can take an empty bottle to fill up once inside. Although I saw a thread on here that said the water points were rubbish, no one knew where they were and the queues were bad.

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 26/07/2012 15:09

can you not take in sealed bottles? I'm going on Sat to handball and will be 32 weeks nearly 33. I was really hoping to take some vitamin water!

blackteaplease · 26/07/2012 15:15

You can take in sealed bottles if less than 100mls, same as at the airport. Medicines are excepted. Otherwise it has to be empty bottles.

Someone was asking about squash on here, I don't see why you couldn't take 100ml of squash and dilute it with water once you get inside.

Check the info that was sent with your tickets, it's all detailed on there, or check here

RunningOutOfIdeas · 26/07/2012 15:27

There is a water fountain near the orbit (red and grey structure with viewing platform at top). If you are going to an event in the main stadium, there are fountains near the toilets that are behind the food kiosks.

At the gate into the park (where queuing starts), I was asked if I was ok by an RAF person. I think if you are worried about having to stand in a queue at any time, just ask a steward if there is anywhere you can sit. They will probably sort you out quickly.

Ieatmypeaswithhoney · 26/07/2012 15:28

Beach Volleyball at 38 + 4.... I think I might regret it but we will give it a go!

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 26/07/2012 16:01

Bugger, that vitamin water is the only thing I can drink! Sadly it's not a squash. I wonder if I take a Drs note in they will let me.

Chunkychicken · 26/07/2012 16:22

Going to the hockey at precisely 24wks next Mon, the Riverside arena. Was a bit worried about the food/water situation, but providing you have the right size bag and its only for you (rather than a picnic) and take empty water bottles, it shouldn't be an issue.

The main prob I have is that we will have to pay the full high speed fare up to Stratford rather than use the included rail card, as they aren't valid on that line. It'll be bad enough getting there for an 8.15 start on the high speed, let alone using the slow train Hmm

blackteaplease · 26/07/2012 16:33

ShouldI, can you get it on prescription? You could argue that it's medically needed therefore a medicine

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 26/07/2012 16:50

Nope it's not on prescription Sad but my Dr recommended it to me as I have hypermesis and water is the only thing I can drink. Plain water doesn't have enough stuff in it to stop me getting dehydrated.

I think I might be able to manage with some electrolytes in a sachet for the day
