Hi everyone... I'm currently pregnant with my first baby and incredibly happy about it.... However..... I'm so so sick. I can barely eat, drink, can't concentrate and currently sat here having a good cry (like that'll help!) my husband is fantastic but doesn't know what to do to help. Please please please can u give me any tips I can try (ANYTHING!!) that worked for you, or any advise to help me try to enjoy this wonderful thing that's happening to me... Thanks in advance.....

Oh, I'm so sorry you feel this way! I've been sick exactly like that for 9 weeks (since I was 6 weeks). It's absolutely horrid.

Try motion sickness sea-bands. They don't cure anything but they help a bit. My husband got mine at Boots.

Sip water in small sips and try to have low-sugar ice lollies if you can find them.

I found sugar made me 10 times sicker so I've been avoiding it until this week.

Stick to bland foods (obviously). Don't force yourself to eat anything that doesn't sound OK (obviously nothing sounds GOOD). I haven't eaten vegetables for months and I feel guilty, but hey.

My main tip is to lie in bed as much as possible. It's the only thing that really made me feel less nauseated.

Feel better soon!!!

p.s. if you're REALLY sick (vomiting many times throughout the day) - don't wait, call your GP.

p.p.s. keep eating! keep something in your stomach at all times. tortilla chips worked for me - rich tea biscuits or water crackers work too.

How far along are you? Last time I was really sick from 7 weeks until 14 weeks and it was awful. I found that it helped to rest as much as possiible and to drink fizzy water and suck ice cubes. Did not fancy anything to eat except fruit so just ate that for a few weeks.
Had to carry a sick bowl everywhere too Blush

This time I am 7.5 weeks and although I've been nauseous, I've yet to actually be sick. I'm wondering if it will be different this time. I just feel like I have a monster hangover every day - made worse by the heat......wish it would cool down a bit!

Hope it passes for you soon x

Also, peshwari has given you some good advice there, however I find for me that eating actually makes me feel worse! Not sure why? You must keep drinking though.

PeshwariNaan · 25/07/2012 19:58

Yes to the fizzy water. I found drinking non-bottled water made me ill (high maintenance baby!!).

I could only drink boiled water, still pretty warm/hot. Anything remotely cold was a no-no. And sucking on a square of chocolate or jelly sweet. Not the healthiest, but definitely a lifesaver. None of these things made me feel better, but at least I was keeping hydrated and getting some calories. Lunchtimes were best for eating, and eating out was always more successful than eating in.

Thankyou so much everyone! It helps me so much to know other people are going thru it!! I'm only 7 weeks at the mo, but my family have a history of sickness during pregnancy :( it just makes me so sad as I'd do anything to enjoy this and not count down the days til my due date...

Sick bands now ordered and sending hubs out to get sweets etc...

I really do appreciate all the advise given.. Thankyou again xx

Sorbet helped with my nausea and may be worth trying, especially in this hot weather. Love heart sweeties. Fruit (esp oranges) was also good but I'd strongly advise phoning your GP if you're suffering, particularly if you're finding drinking difficult.

Hi there. I really feel for you. I've had terrible sickness for the last 5 weeks and have been utterly miserable. I'm now 11 weeks and it seem to be starting to ease off a bit. Basically my advice is, for most people, eating little and often does help even if you don't feel like it or enjoy it. My husband has been brilliant at the online internet shopping. I'll suddenly say 'I feel like an orange today!' and the next day we'll have 20 of them! The reason is - its so good to make sure you have whatever you feel like available to you because often it is the only thing you can eat. Also, do ask for help from anyone you have told (if anyone.) People like helping. I haven't been able to cook or anything for the last 5 weeks or even leave the house really so my Gran has been making me amazing fruit salads as its about all I can eat!

Hi, I'm 7 weeks with my third and feeling very queasy all day and not sleeping at night, I had severe sickness with my second & ended up in hospital for 3 days on a drip, I feel like I'm heading that way again and struggling to do anything, any advice would be grateful! I haven't been sick as yet but the severe queasiness feels worse than being sick! Thanks

doblet · 26/07/2012 08:30

Go to your GP. You can get medication that is safe to take. You don't need to suffer!

Also I think there is a hyperemesis thread on here - doesn't sound like you're quite that bad at the moment, but I think it's really for anyone suffering from sickness. It's got some good tips I believe Smile

Thank you I will check out the other threads x
