Hi all

Am 30+ weeks and just come back from the doctors, she is sending me to the hospital tommorrow as believes the baby is lying spine to spine with me and cannot feel the head or bottom for the 3rd week in a row. (Heartbeat fine though Smile )

Have any Mnetters had this before? do they try to manipulate the baby to move? Thought something was a bit strange as hardly getting any movement and it's uncomfortable to lie on my left hand side, which is much different to my last baby.

midwife told me to keep getting on all fours to get her to move it sometimes worked but she moved back when i was in labour and i had a back to back birth very painful and she got stuck so had ventouse in the end, they tried to move her when i was in labour and it really hurt!! try the all fours thing though hope it helps!

It is good they have found out that your baby is spine to spine now, as there will be a chance your baby will move and at least they will know about it when you are in labour. Have heard that going on all fours with your head down helps the baby to reposition itself.
I was having contractions for nearly 36 hours before having an emergency c-section as ds was spine to spine.

Good luck, your baby has 10 weeks to move so am sure that he/she will before the crucial time!

I had this and for a full week I spent ages crawling round on all fours-v. uncomfortable but it worked and DD moved. Give it a try and good luck!

Being OP doesn't have to be a horror story of long and painful labour. All three of mine were OP (despite doing all the on fours, sitting backwards on dining chairs malarky!) and it was fine - I coped on G & A and had labours of 12, 4 and 6 hours. There was a thread about positive OP birth stories which I'll try and find, plus a link to a great site (mears?) which gives loads of tips...... I'll go and have a search

Hi
DD was Op for weeks b4 birth, I spent ages on all fours and sitting rocking on a gym ball. She moed herself a few days before birth but turned back on the day I was induced. It wasnt too bad but I couldnt move around, just lay on my side, DP had it easy as he couldnt even rub my back as all I remember is the pain in my back when he touched me. I had G&A and the labour was fine no probs so good luck!!!!!!

My dd was Rop right up until I went into labour -

  • I did everything I could to try and get her into a better position but she was clearly comfy and refused to budge.
I was so worried as I'd heard all these scary stories plus had a nightmare labour with my ds who I suspect was op but I never asked then as it was a long time ago(!) I was in labour for 2 days with him lying on my back, making very little progress.

Anyway, this time i kept upright all through labour, walking around etc and then delivered her on all fours. I know people say second and subsequent labours are easier but these two were nearly 20 years apart so it would have been like first labour(!)

I'm sure the difference was being upright and active and that this helped dd to corkscrew beautifully. It was such a positive experience and I didn't even need to push at the end as gravity took over.

hope that helps to reassure you
All the best
love Ruth

Thank you to you all who took the time to post, am feeling a lot more positive and your tips r.e staying upright during labour etc are very helpful.

The outcome of the appt & scan was that the placenta was on my tummy (anterior?) which was one of the resons why they couldnt feel much. The baby was head up and spine to spine at the moment (but still time to move) but they have booked me back in tommorrow for a scan as my level of amniotic fluid is too high and she was not happy with the size of the baby when she took a quick measurement.

Am not too concerned about the placenta and the OP thing any more it looks like the Amniotic fluid level is far more serious based on the info I have read. So I would appreciate your advice again, have any of your pregnancies had this diagnosed?and what did they do for you and the baby if anything? Thanks again everyone x
