Baby SHUDDERING...

Superslinger · 19/07/2012 20:10

Every now and then I feel baby doing a shuddering movement. That's normal isn't it... ?!

I most of the time tell myself it's obviously her just straining to move in her increasingly restricted space, but then if I had to describe what I mean by shuddering the only way I can describe it is the sort of movement you'd see if somebody was having a fit... And then I start to think oh no - is she having fits?!!!!! Is that even possible in the womb? It doesn't seem to be her whole body btw, it seems to happen in quite a discrete area... But not always in the same place on my bump, depending on what position she's in/ which bits I can feel iyswim...

Yours sincerely,
Endlessly worrying Superslinger. x

I have had shuddering, wobbling and bloody painful jabbing!

I'm 31 weeks with #3 and presume all is well.
Saw MW today but didn't mention it specifically as hadn't given it much thought!
I said baby was very active and she said that was a good thing so I wouldn't worry too much.
Easier said than done, I know.

How far along are you?

Cheekychops84 · 19/07/2012 20:15

Omg I've had that really weird Its like palpitations in your bump ? Like baby is vibrating lol what is that ?

StarryCole · 19/07/2012 20:16

Please get this checked out by your doctor asap and it might be worth videoing your baby the next time it happens so you can show it to your doctor.

Unable to give qualified advice here but it seems unusual (if after you have checked the obvious like her temperature/nappy etc).

StarryCole · 19/07/2012 20:17

Ah - Ignore my previous message - I reread, you're still pregnant- DUH!

BikeRunSki · 19/07/2012 20:17

Superslinger - normal, both mine did it.
Blondie - mine did all that too
Cheeky - Braxton Hicks?

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 19/07/2012 20:18

I think she means in the womb starry!

LynetteScavo · 19/07/2012 20:20

DS2 did this.

He then did it for a few days after he was born. The midwife witnessed it once, and said it was due to low blood sugar, and if it happened again he would need to go back into hospital. I wasn't worried, because he had been doing it before he was born. He stopped doing it a few days after birth.

Spice17 · 19/07/2012 20:21

Will watch this with interest as mine does this more than anything else (I'm 28 weeks)

Reminds me of when a dog or cat shakes to get water off them, I get a juddering sensation, god knows what she's doing in there.

Wasn't too worried about it but maybe am a bit now.......

Whatevertheweather · 19/07/2012 20:21

I get this too superslinger a sort of shuddering vibrating feeling. Can feel quite strong, I'm 33 weeks now.

Have never felt anything that could be hiccups though and everywhere seems to talk about feeling hiccups.

Superslinger · 19/07/2012 20:29

I'm 38 weeks. I do get hiccups in bump and they're very different - very clear and rhythmic, whereas this is, well, shuddery shuddering. That's reassuring bikerun, but a bit scary it can continue after birth Lynette... Never know what to think! Can't wait to just have her in front of me so I can see that she's ok - feel so in the dark with her inside and just having to guess what she's up to the whole time!

SpottyTeacakes · 19/07/2012 20:40

I had this with dd, when she was born her leg used to shudder when she did a wee, a bit like a dog does when you tickle its tummy!

It's the thought of having to wear clothes washed in fabric softener... not a stalker :o

LynetteScavo · 19/07/2012 20:44

Superslinger - when they are in front of you, you keep poking them when they are asleep to make sure they are still breathing. Grin It doesn't get any easier!

OliviaLMumsnet · 19/07/2012 20:45

You are not alone. I had this and remember feeling panicked by it.
DS2 is just really wriggly
Good luck btw

EarnestDullard · 19/07/2012 20:50

Mine had little teeny baby hiccups for the first time the other day (almost 28w).

Sorry, that's not relevant, I'm just trying to make OliviaMN broody Grin

BuntyCollocks · 19/07/2012 21:40

DS did this and is now a healthy, happy never sits on his arse bright 18 month old. It is freaky. But normal. :)

I was put on the monitor when I mentioned it and no problems.

Superslinger · 19/07/2012 22:00

Haha, AKMD stop tormenting me!! Lynette, DH just read your post and says he's already predicted this will be me. OliviaMN I'm going to take MNHQ authority as reassurance! Arrrrrrrrrrrgh the worry!

I had this very briefly the other week (24wks?), so briefly that I thought I'd imagined it. But then other women on my antenatal chat group mentioned it too. One of them researched it and apparently it's totally normal, just feels very weird! So no need to worry! Grin

Nousername2015 · 20/10/2015 15:52

I've had this a few times since last week. Called mw yesterday who had never heard of it and asked me to go in and be monitored. Hb was ok on the monitor and told to come back if it happened again. Had lots of movement last night so was happy all was well. Until today.
The anxious part of me is now convinced there is a cord compression issue. I stupidly googled and now need talking down.
Is anyone else experiencing this? The midwives at the hospital were stumped and even asked 2 consultants who also couldn't help. I'm positive it isn't hiccups as it lasts a few seconds only and is too fast to be rhythmic. Any help out there?

Nousername2015 · 20/10/2015 16:08

Also, I now know that baby is head down and lying on my left side. I thought he was breech as I get far more movement down low than up high. I'm hoping that he's kicking my placenta on the back wall which is why I don't get many kicks but it's hard to think rationally at the moment. Is a lot more punches than kicks normal?

TakesTwoToTango · 20/10/2015 20:18

It's totally normal isn't it? Has happened in all three of my pgs and all my friends too. Newborns also often make some funny twitchy, quivery movements (which I always assumed was the same thing). Midwives always said it was quite normal (one said it was baby's immature nervous system, but don't know if that's right or not). Mine all stopped doing it once they were out of the newborn phase.

Nousername2015 · 20/10/2015 21:06

Thanks takestwo, I didn't think much of it until it happened for a few days straight and now it seems all the medical people where I live have never heard of it. Have had all sorts running through my head so it is reassuring to hear from someone who knows what I'm on about and it's all fine. I thought it was a fit at first!
