This is my second pregnancy and I am really enjoying it- but I think thats because I am 100% decided that i wont be having any more. I have never been more certain about anything.

However my mother in law said i will feel broody again in a few years so not to close any doors- but I am convinced i am done. I was contemplating getting steralised- but then, i am slightly reluctant about that too...namely because i am 27 and it does seme hasty :/

Has anyone here been so certain...and changed their minds?

Alternatively....anyone here been so certain and never once looked back??

Thanks for your feedback

I had my 2nd child at 23 and thought yes I'm so done ! No more no way ! 5 years later I'm 38 weeks with number 3 ! I'd wait to b honest ! U have plenty of time to get sterilised if in the future u really do think ur done! Good luck with what u decide x

I had my first two DCs quite close together (20 months apart) and decided after an awful pregnancy with severe SPD for the second time that we were most definitely done. Our family was complete with DS and DD. Now, here I am 2.5 years later and 20 weeks pregnant Smile not planned, but I'm certainly pleased that hubby didn't get the snip straight after DC2 like we had first planned. I'd wait a while before making any permanent decisions.

Was certain no more when preg with no 2, but did not get round to taking final measures. Then found out preg with no 3 when no 2 was 17months. Was distraught and preg ended in miscarriage. Then dh got vasectomy and since I have longed for a baby - am more accepting it is not going to happen now after two years of begging him to get it reversed! It is hard to know how you will feel. For me although I want another baby I am not sure I want another child or teenager iyswim! Also two kids (now 6 and 7) are hard work. So whilst my heart says yes baby, my head and my weary body says no thanks! Being a woman with all these hormones telling us once a month we want a baby is really hard!

I never want to be pregnant ever again, I am going to be 34 this year so age is def not on my side but am adamant this is it.

Was going to post something in the family planning section asking what options are as I never want to do this again, currently 38+2 with number 2. Dh is talking about vasectomy, me being sterilised then I read take a break or something similar where both had had the chop and still they'd gone on to have 2 more, which scares me, a lot!!!

popsypie · 18/07/2012 21:54

I used to read those articles after dh had vasectomy and hope I would be one of those women that happened to!!! Wink

TheBigRazzoo · 18/07/2012 21:58

I was NEVER going to have children. Now I am pregnant and NO WAY going to have more than 1 child. Check back here in a year or two for the 'this second child is ABSOLUTELY MY LAST' post. Smile

Loislane78 · 18/07/2012 23:37

I don't know much about this so apologies if it's rubbish but can sterilisation sometimes lead to issues down the line? I thought potentially a greater risk of hystorectomy but pls check that!

If you do decide to go ahead with something like that, I'd get DP to go vasectomy.

mumnosbest · 18/07/2012 23:42

no need to be hasty. wait till your hormones are back to normal. after ds and dd1 i always felt broody and incomplete. dd2 is now 6 months and i loved being pg. i now feel our family is complete and dont look ar tiny babies and want one. my 3 dcs are just enough for us :)

louisianablue2000 · 19/07/2012 00:00

This (I'm 7 months pregnant) is going to be our last. But it's No3 and I'm 41. A friend's DH got the snip about 5 minutes after she had No4 so she couldn't change her mind again (but they were also on the wrong side of 35 by this point).

In your situation since it's just No2 and you're still young then I'd not do anything hasty. What if something dreadful happened to a DC? Would you want another then? If your OH died and you met someone else would another child seem like a good idea? My Mum said she had her tubes cut after No4 because she couldn't face another pregnancy and I think that's a good indication that you are finished. Otherwise wait and see, I know too many people who've had 'just one more'.

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief · 19/07/2012 03:05

Another one saying "never again" - 37 wks with DC2 and know that I definitely don't want any more. Am planning on getting sterilised 6mo (tubes tied) after the birth. However, I am 10 years older than the OP and (though I hate to think about this) even if both DCs died in some awful accident, I still wouldnt want to have any more babies/pregnancies.

At 27, I'd probably just use a reliable method of contraception for another 5 years before making any permanent decisions.

harrygracejessica · 19/07/2012 09:13

I was sterilised at 30 :-) it was because we have 5 kids with 2 sets of twins!! The risk was too high for me.

mumnosbest · 19/07/2012 10:09

I would get dh to have a vasectomy if you are certain. Its a much easier procedure and less recovery time. You've done your bit carrying and giving birth. Also if you were to change your mind in the future it could possibly be reversed (though not 100% effective and costs)

mumnosbest · 19/07/2012 10:12

OP how long after dc1 did you decide you wanted dc2? You might change your mind. I think for me it wS when we got to about months.

Twotumsellie · 19/07/2012 11:56

this is my last pregnancy for sure, at 33 and with a 13 year age gap i know i don't want to go through this again. however i think the snip is too final for anyone. you never know what is around the corner.

For 13 years i was happy with my marina coil, its virtually painless going in, stopped my periods and any signs of pmt. last's for 5 years and i was pregnant within 6 weeks of removal!

Even though i know i don't want any more children, i will have the coil replaced as soon as possible.

Kizza2 · 14/08/2012 10:58

I wanted the kids close together- there will be 14 months between them. I had thought maybe 2 years age gap but got pregnant accidently (didnt know u can get pregnant without mestruating)

I really want to re focus on my career....think i am done with baby number 2- but its been a smooth ride and i really enjoying it, maybe..just maybe...the stars have other plans for me

I am 33 weeks pregnant with DC2 and I know 100% this will be our last. My family agree that the decision is right for me and my family, but my in-laws keep laughing saying I'll change my mind Angry I am terrible at pregnancy, and I dislike newborns so I really wouldn't want to go through this again. Plus we only live in a 2 bedroom house so it can only fit 2 adults and 2 children (thank God the 2 kids will be boys).

strugglingwiththepreteenbit · 14/08/2012 11:46

My dds 1 and 2 are less than a year apart. We didn't make any permenant arrangements because I still felt broody and thought we'd regret sterilization if our lottery numbers came up or a similar miracle. When the youngest got to seven or so we'd started to enjoy them being older, out of nappies/buggies/needing to be the centre of our universe and a family we did things with rather than for. We discussed DH being sterilized, (we felt it was less invasive than the female equivalent,) hunted through the calender for a good break from work in which he could convalesce. That's as far as we got. We're now both terrified and delighted to be getting used to our oops turning up next April.
It really will turn our lives upside down, I'm coming to terms with a lot of guilt over how it will change and compromise the girls' lives. I feel strongly about being a SAHM to little ones, though that choice isn't for everyone, and therefore my pension is going to be utterly screwed. I'm thrilled, because I love children and really did want more, but at the moment it feels like I've been out and bought three pairs of designer shoes and hang everyone else, only I can't return them/it.

I suppose I'm saying that could be the future if you don't do something permenant.
