Yes. And eggs with dippy yolks! As long as eggs have the lion stamp on them they are fine.Grin Enjoy!

BlueMoon74 · 18/07/2012 19:32

I was told you can't have runny eggs?! Hmm

DawnOfTheDee · 18/07/2012 19:39

The danger is salmonella. If eggs have the lion stamp they have been vaccinated against it. I guess it's all about your own personal attitude to risk really.

kaymondo · 18/07/2012 19:40

And me! Scrambled are fine as long as properly cooked but no runny eggs AFAIK

bigbadbarry · 18/07/2012 19:40

You are allowed to eat whatever you like.

ILikeMagicMike · 18/07/2012 19:41

Not sure if they have lion Mark on them but will have a look - pretty sure they must do if from a supermarket. I didn't think you were meant to have runny eggs either but craving them badly!
Well I have eaten Stilton so far too whoops!

Exactly bigbadbarry!

I even licked a bit of cake mix off my fingers....sssshhhhh.....

DawnOfTheDee · 18/07/2012 19:42

Supermarket eggs will be fine. It's only if you get eggs from your mates chickens or something that you should be careful.

I ate stilton too....

Pascha · 18/07/2012 19:47

Lion eggs are vaccinated against salmonella but theres no such thing as 100% sure. Salmonella won't directly harm your baby but it will make you very poorly which iobviously could have knock on effects.

I probably would but then I've had pate on toast everymorning so I'm no role model.

propercharlie · 18/07/2012 19:50

Stilton is also totally fine. It's on the NHS list of safe foods to eat during pregnancy!!!

So many myths fly around about food and pregnancy...

applecrumple · 18/07/2012 20:02

I wouldn't, looking forward to a big plate of scrambled eggs after the birth though!

RJandA · 19/07/2012 08:33

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/foods-to-avoid-pregnant.aspx is the NHS advice.

Stilton fine, only soft blue-veined cheeses are a risk.

Eggs - NHS still advise cooking eggs thoroughly. Lion mark themselves claim that "salmonella has been virtually eliminated from British Lion eggs". They don't give a % though. It's completely up to you, personally I still have scrambled eggs but have them quite rubbery (yummmmmm Confused)

TinkerMaloo · 19/07/2012 09:05

Yes to scrambled! And in all three of my pregnancies I have not deprived myself of runny yolks... I love them soft and they arent worth eating when they are cooked through!
Stick to british lion marked free range and you and the hens will all be ok I reckon! :)

shimmy0 · 19/07/2012 09:06

I'm guilty of having mayo, I had just acted normally that day then it wasn't until I finished the sandwich that I had realised what I had done. It was just after I found out I was pregnant.
Getting used to being pregnant is sooooo hard :-(

EightiesOlympicGolds · 19/07/2012 09:07

I ate scrambled when I was pregnant but not fried with runny yolk. However, if I were to do it again I probably would eat them with runny yolks as long as they were lion stamped eggs. The risk is very small although of course it's up to everyone to make their own decision.

RJandA · 19/07/2012 09:25

shimmy0 shop bought mayo is fine because the catering industry have to use pasteurised eggs. Only home made mayo is something to avoid.

stowsettler · 19/07/2012 10:05

Blimey! Stilton ok? And runny eggs??!! FANTASTIC! I'm not overly militant about these things, but these I had given up. Hooray, I know what I'm having for tea / breakfast / lunch!!

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 19/07/2012 12:59

Runny egg every day for breakfast here! And eggs are an excellent food to eat while preggo - lots of vits and minerals and good protein. As others have said, it's down to your personal attitude towards risk.

Chunkychicken · 19/07/2012 13:11

Eggs are also full of folic acid, so don't avoid them entirely!!

Doomfinger · 19/07/2012 13:34

This book is on my wishlist!

Most UK eggs are Lion Marked. I could not have gone without my runny fried eggs! It was MN's fault I burnt myself badly once eating fried eggs Hmm

MissCoffeeNWine · 19/07/2012 14:55

Who is going to do the not-allowing? The police?

You are allowed to eat whatever you like.

If you mean what are the vaguely set out NHS guidelines towards eating in pregnancy, those change every few weeks. Honestly they've changed three times in this pregnancy alone. Even according to those - scrambled eggs are fine. Runny eggs are fine. Rare steak is fine. Parma ham is fine. Mayo is fine. Stilton is fine.

It's pretty much ALL fine.

RJandA · 19/07/2012 20:54

misscoffeenwine can you post a link to your nhs guidelines that say runny egg and rare steak are fine? I will jump for joy if rare steak is true!

terilou87 · 21/07/2012 23:27

NHS guidelines are guide lines not the law if your worried about what you eat i would look up what the effects are on the baby after eating what ever it is you want to eat, that way you can make an informed decision on what you want to do. i eat most things but i make sure they are cooked properly, i dont like runny eggs anyway but i love medium rare steak, im sure scrambled eggs are fine anyway tho.

howiwonder · 22/07/2012 08:18

propercharlie you have made my day!!!! im off to buy a wedge of stilton. yummy....

PurplePidjin · 22/07/2012 08:31

I ate a sandwich yesterday that contained unpasteurised cheese. I didn't realise till i was half way through the first bit. Can i sue Sainsbury's if something goes wrong because it was in really tiny print? Hmm
