Hi, has anyone had a homebirth before? DD1 labour was very quick I was 4cm when I arrived, DD1 arrived 2 hours later, when I was being stitched up the MW commented next time you will be homebirth no stitches, I mentioned this to my MW this time at my booking in appointment as she asked me where I want to have baby, and she said the same, "oh yes home birth dear don't even try to get to the hospital , better to have a planned home birth then not make it to the hospital!" so has anyone had a homebirth/are you planning to have one? Xx

I'm planning a home water birth Smile Due in September/October. Had a straightforward hospital water birth last time - not quick mind you (14 hours).

Yes, I have lots of risk factors (APH and GD) but dd arrived after 3 hours and it only took that long because my labour slowed when they put me on my back for monitoring. I was told the same thing, better a planned home birth than an emergency one. I'm 5 mins blue light from hospital so I'd get in that way if I had a big enough problem and then they couldn't ignore me like last time

yes, i've had 2 homebirths and they were both great.
ds3 was born in 48 minutes lol

Ok I had a fast first baby (and had stitches) and it was because of this I booked a home birth (how quick not tge stitches!). You can always change your mind and go in. As it happens I did go in ds was born 30 mibs after arriving so was a lot closer than dd

Ps you may be able to be stitched at home it will depend on if tgat midwife can stich (unbelievable isn't it) and how bad it is.

Happycamel I was also on my back for monitoring for the full 2 hours, dread to think how quick it would have been otherwise! Hmmmm lots to think about x

Ds was a home birth after a straightforward 1st birth with dd. If you tear they can stitch you at home. The mw's will come prepared for this. I had to be stitched and tbh even lying on my living room floor, it was far quicker and less stressful than being done in hospital with my legs in the air and half the maternity ward wandering in while the doctor was doing her handiwork Grin

For those of you stitched at home did you tear or was it because of a episiotomy? Did they numb you? With dd1 I had a injection and then a episiotomy x

Hi, I'm due 31st July, with 2nd baby, 1st baby was quick for me too, got to hosp at 8cm & 1.40 hrs later he was born, was a waste of time going, though they were all great & really looked after me ! So this time I've decided to stay at home,,,, hope it's all quick & I'm only 5 mins blue light from hosp, just in case, all the midwives have been very supportive of my home birth, but did warn me if they were really low staffed that there's a small possibility that I'd have to go to hosp for birth ! I' d say go for it, think there's nowhere more comforting than your own home & bed x x

I had a home birth with DD1. She got stuck after 2.5 hours of pushing so I had an episiotomy with local analgesia and they stitched me up there and then. Actually it was oddly amusing - two midwives staring up my fanjo, illuminated by the anglepoise light from my desk, one stitching with the other giving her helpful suggestions! all very homely ...

Hoping for another HB some time in the next 7 days Smile

I'm not due till December, but I'm planning the same. 10cm on arrival with Ds, born 2 hours after. Midwife at birth suggested home birth next time.
My community midwife always seems rushed though and has said there's not a problem with me having one but we'll discuss at 28 weeks. Have yours been the same? The hospital here does a monthly info evening so I'll go to that next month.
I had a water birth last time. Loved it but money is really tight so trying to decide whether to buy one- think would be at least £120. Wouldn't have batted an eyelid last time (when I worked full time!!)

I tore like I did with dd in hospital. They numbed me after and I still had use of the g&a if I needed it. I think the more relaxed environment led to a quicker and less painful stitching experience.
