it took me over half an hour last night to decide what DD's first outfit should be after she's born?! Lets face it, she probably poo, wee or puke all over it in the first five minutes Grin

Lol, I can't wait until I'm nearing that stage :D

I'd save it for her going-home-from hospital outfit - but yes, she probably will poo/sick/wee all over it. We took 3 babygros to hospital, and before the end of the day DH was despatched to go and buy a stack more ...

If it's a favourite outfit you can also perhaps reuse it for the visit to register her (will give you time to wash it and get the camera ready in advance).

Lovely babies!

If I'm totally honest, it wasn't just the first outfit I had issues choosing, it was the next one, and the next, and then the going home outfit. Think I am finally losing it! DH did point out that I've got the next however many years (till she refuses to wear what I put her in!) to dress her. Think I may have too many clothes for her - she has more than me!! Blush

Hmmm - I think you may have gone just a teensy bit baby bonkers Wink

I don't think they really like you to put newborns in 'outfits' as the MWs tend to want you to do as much skin to skin as possible (even if ffing from the outset) as it regulates baby's heartbeat, temp and breathing far better than even an incubator (which your newborn will almost certainly not needSmile). It feels really good to to hold baby skin to skin as it releases tonnes of oxytocin - the 'love' hormone.

When they do get dressed something easy like a vest and sleepsuit is probably the quickest way to get baby dressed as most babies HATE being dressed undressed so the least faffy thing you can get them in is usually the one that results in the least crying (top tip - pop up the sleepsuit to the crotch before dressing baby and then pull them on like leggings then do up the top part rather than doing all the poppers up while the baby is wriggling).

Truth that wasn't the case when DS was born in April, they couldn't have cared less if he was naked, in a babygro or wearing a frilly tutu! No-one gave a rats arse whether any of the mums were doing skin to skin (shame really)

TruthSweet · 18/07/2012 19:33

That is a shame Flisspaps - was it in a non-Baby Friendly Initiative hosptial? I would hope that any MW worth her salt would be encouraging all new mums to do skin to skin (or with Dad if Mum isn't well enough). It's basic neonatal care!!

I have saved both of my kids first vests and sleepsuits, I just picked out really cute ones that weren't too expensive, ds had a a little Peter rabbit one, dd had bunnies on hers. They arent the nicest outfits they had, but have special meaning iyswim. I'll be doing the same this time. If its just a sleepsuit they have so many it doesnt matter if they only wear it once, and wee/sick comes out ok in the wash. Poo won't be an issue as the first poos are like tar and don't generally leak.

Not really bothered about first outfit, but getting a bit too hung up on DSs "coming home" outfit. So far I've bought three . I need to get a grip Grin
