17 weeks and I can see the baby. Is this normal?

When I woke up this morning all I could see and feel was the baby.
All that was there, was a hard baby shaped lump right in the middle of my stomache, level with my belly button.
I checked again later and it's still the same but in a different place.

I can't ever remember this with dd.

Tbh it's totally freaked me out. Dh thinks it's very normal.
Should I be worried or can I just relax and stop being an idiot? Grin

I am sure it is normal Nbg Smile I often used to read that you could see the shape of the baby's hand or foot pushing against you, so why not the whole body? Maybe you have nice taut stomach muscles.

Personally, after 4 pregnancies, I can honestly say I never saw any body parts, but I am sure it is normal to be able to.

if the babies moving it's probably ok but i would have thought there'd be more amniotic fluid around it at this stage nbg. maybe you should ring your midwife just to reassure yourself?

Nbg · 04/03/2006 13:16

Thats what I was thinking eve.

DG, I certainly haven't got taught stomach muscles Wink (was going to put your old name then!)

There's a friend in the family whos a midwife so I've a left a message with her. I'l hear back from her today.

When I stand up my bump looks normal it's just when I lay down.

with any luck your babies just being awkward nbg, lord knows they're good at that! try not to worry too much before you talk to the midwife and drink loads of water in case it is a problem with the fluid.

Nbg · 04/03/2006 13:30

I've just heard back from her. She said it sounds quite normal and is probably the sign of an active baby and it's just turning lots!

nbg - of my 5 babies, at least 2 did this when I lay on my back too. When I was in the bath, maybe due to the hot water, it happened too. I would excitedly call dh to look as it was really weird to see this definite baby shape moving like an alien on one side of my belly!

I really think it is normal and nothing to worry about tbh. Weird though isn't it? Grin

Nbg · 04/03/2006 14:12

Thanks QE2 Smile
That is reassuring.

I would have expected it further on but just not so early.
I often saw dd's foot or hand sticking out of my bump but that was when I was 20 odd + weeks.

Weird! I am quite envious actually. I had the placenta and a thick old layer of tummy fat covering up my baby!

Nbg · 04/03/2006 14:14

Oh I have a good layer of fat but when I lie down it kind of spreads Grin

With dd1 we could make out elbows knees and feet pretty much all the time, even through my clothes, but dd2 was more body movements than body part movements.

morningpaper · 04/03/2006 15:14

lol! I remember this - it's a bit gross! Always first thing when I was lying on my back - yuck!

Baby is now in baby walker shaking a rattle, so seemed okay :)

Nbg · 04/03/2006 15:19

Isn't it too early for BH's?

Yeah but I can't remember when they started.
I think I noticed them 25+ weeks, I think could have been later.

I'll have to lie down again and see what happens!

I'm not really noticing any kicks tbh.

I thought I felt some last weekend, well I was sure of it but I've had nothing since so I don't know if they were kicks or not.

It's so annoying because I don't see the midwife for another 7 weeks and I always feel like a moron ringing them up!

Grin Thanks.

I've just checked again and it seems normal.

With first baby I didn't notice any kicks until well after 20 weeks. With no2 I felt definite "flutters" like bubbles from 13 weeks! I kid you not!

Thinking about it, the baby all on one side thing probably happened with a BH - I had forgotten about it until someone else said lower down the thread.

Still, a very weird sensation anyway having a bubba contorting around like that. Smile
