Pain in bum (literally) warning: tmi!

I'm 37 weeks and for the last couple of days have been constipated. Last night I was really achy inside my bum and despite needing a poo since mid afternoon couldn't go. Eventually at about 3am I produced a hard rabbit dropping Hmm, then about an hour later did more of a normal number 2, but by heck it was awful! Huge cramps getting it out and actually painful on the inside (not the opening) as it passed through. It felt like a painful bruising sensation. The number 2 itself seemed a bit narrower than usual, but was basically soft.

I put it down to the constipation and went back to bed. This morning I woke up with mild pain/aching all round my pelvis, but especially at the back. About an hour ago I had to go for another number 2, and again this one seemed soft and normal, but I was literally yelping as it started to move Sad. SO painful, again feeling like bruising or muscular pain or something. Once it was actually coming out it hurt less. Now I'm seft a bit achy and uncomfortable and dreading having to go whenever the next time is!

So, has anyone had this? Is it just cos of the constipation? Anything I can do about it other than keep drinking lots and eat the right foods for keeping everything moving?

Piles? (I'm just guessing btw)

Your symptoms sound exactly like mine when I had a fissure, its like a cut in your back passage probably caused by straining and/or hard stools. I had it after having DS and had to see a consultant who explained the hard stools were down to hormones.
Ask your midwife if you are ok to take fybogel or lactolose or if there is anything she can give you to make you soft. This will give your fissure chance to Also, make sure you regularly take something like that after the birth! good luck!

BTW having a no 2 with a fissure was a lot more painful than giving birth IMO!

Thanks. I'm wondering if it might be either piles, or something to do with the position of the baby's head. Maybe even just some sort of hideous constipation backlog ?! Been again just now and not quite as painful as before, but still hurts and v crampy whilst actually going. In a way it feels like trapped wind?

Sorry to hear you had a fissure whohellhe Sad. I had one after DC1 that didn't heal properly until my pregnancy with DC3! It was like pooing glass . I don't think it's that, as this pain is less sharp, and not near the entrance, but a lot further inside my tummy. I hope not anyway!

It may not be the case for you but I had a similar experience a day or two before going into labour. I'd contact a gp or mw about it personally just to check everything's ok or to see what can be done.
