Anyone want to join my thread for accident prone rhesus negative ladies?

I am possibly the most accident prone of people AND I'm rhesus negative. Not the best combo. I have had to have anti D twice now and Im not even at the 28 weeks mark for the scheduled shot!

This evening I am panicking because I held my elasticated trousers and knickers away from my tummy to look at it and accidentally let go slapping them back on to my tummy. I know, I know... But my crazy pregnant lady brain is thinking 'what if it caught a little leg and made it bleed?'

Anyhoo, thought I'd start a support thread for other clumsy / accident prone rhesus neg ladies out there. Anyone wish to come and join me?

Oh and fun fact for you - apparently rhesus negative people are more likely to get abducted by aliens. Indeed.

Ooh me me me can I play?

I'm dyspraxic so I have an excuse for falling on my arse all the time. Doesn't make the horrible injections any more fun though - isn't it the most disgusting sensation? Ew.

whysoserious · 15/07/2012 21:52

It most certainly is! Oh dear dyspraxia and rhesus neg is definitely not a good combo. Poor you! How many injections have you had to have do far?

I think only 2, but it's been a long time, DS is 8.

We were in a car accident when I was expecting DS - I think I had one then, but it's all a bit vague. We weren't actually in the impact, we just had to do an emergency stop when a car flipped over the central reservation and landed on its roof in front of us. I got a thorough check over afterwards and I believe I had it then. Then once after DS was born.

This time I'm only 7+4 so none yet - but there's plenty time! My dyspraxia seems to be getting worse with age, I definitely fall more these days than I used to. I'm also a lot more aware of the risks of being negative. When I was expecting DS I had a couple of nasty falls in snow and ice - these days I'd be straight off to hospital for a check up whereas back then I just brushed it off. It's a miracle that boy is still here it really is.

How come you can't be accident prone and rhesus neg at the same time ? I'm rhesus neg and I've never known it to be a big deal ? Should I be taking precautions or something ?Confused

MrsReiver · 15/07/2012 23:34

You need to read this link here Willow - it puts it better than I can
[http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Rhesus-disease/Pages/Causes.aspx]

Basically if you have a bump or accident, you need to get an injection of Anti-D to stop the possibility of your body rejecting the baby, and having a miscarriage.

MrsReiver · 15/07/2012 23:34

Arg why didn't it convert that link? www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Rhesus-disease/Pages/Causes.aspx

WillowTheWitch · 15/07/2012 23:56

Oh that's got me worried now I have placenta preavia too and I have quite a physical job . I was already worried about how my job is affecting my pregnancy now I definitely am !! Ok I am definitely having a talk with my senior tomorrow !

whysoserious · 16/07/2012 05:58

Willow you'll be fine. It's just if you have a knock or a bump (or a bleed) but just explain to your boss then they can be aware of it.

I've found that I've had quite a lot of bumps - most fine - but a couple of biggish ones that, while I was confident the baby was fine and all in one piece, I and the midwives, couldn't be sure that a silent bleed (even tiny) didn't occur. It's actually to protect the next baby/babies.

Up until recently I had never heard of this. I think back in a cold sweat to the number of times i shut the door/ caught the corner of the work surface/ got jumped on by my toddler while pregnant. I think I'll have regular appointments this time around!

MrsReiver · 16/07/2012 08:36

Willow, sorry if I was alarmist, was just on way to bed so was a quick post. You will be fine hun but it's just something to be aware of to protect the baby. Take care.

Remembered 3rd injection of anti-d after mc last August. As if I hadn't already had enough needles stuck in me Sad

BadgerFace · 16/07/2012 09:06

I am fully expecting to have some stories to join on here in due course. Just found out I am RH negative and I generally manage to bash myself quite a lot so goodness knows how bad it's going to get when I have a bump... Mine's an IVF baby so was hoping for no more needles for a while but looks like my luck is out!

What's the earliest you need the jab? If you have a bleed/bump at any point? I am 13 weeks at the moment and not due for my first Anti-D until 28 weeks I think?

Emmiedarling · 16/07/2012 12:50

I'm 28 weeks tomorrow and thus far I've had 4 anti d jabs (this is not including any planned ones!!!)

I can claim its not clumsiness though - I've got a cervical suture which always bleeds :-/

I'm invisaging many more trips to labour ward triage. Oh, Did I mention I'm sat in the waiting room right now?!??

Quick question, when u have had ur jabs, where've they done it? I've always had mine in the top of my arm as they've said it can not go in the bum...read on here that some peeps have had it there...confused :-/

MrsReiver · 16/07/2012 13:37

I've always had it in the top of my thigh Emmie.

GobblersKnob · 16/07/2012 13:44

Really, do they give it that often now?

I have had two dc's am rh neg and have never had anti-d, (both dcs are also rh neg, so never needed it after giving birth).

With ds I fell badly on my tummy onto the kerb and with dd I fell badly doing karate, both times I got checked over at hospital, but was never given anti-d, they didn't do the routine one at 28 weeks either then.

Kelbells · 16/07/2012 14:17

Can I join?! I'm sat in the hospital now, after yet another bleed this morning, waiting to see if I need another inj! I had one 2 weeks ago and thought I'd not need another one so soon Sad

Emmie, I think when you have the smaller dose it's in your arm but the full dose is in your thigh/bum??

abcde1 · 16/07/2012 17:04

Potentially stupid question but does all this apply if it's a second baby and you had all the anti-d injections with your first pregnancy? Do I still need to have injections if I bash something?

Kelbells · 16/07/2012 21:12

abc I think giving anti d applies to all of your pregnancies if you bleed/have a hard knock/28 weeks but would only affects your next pregnancy if that makes sense?! Someone else may correct me Smile

fridakahlo · 16/07/2012 21:29

Mrs Reivers, snap! I am also a dyspraxic rhesus negative person.
Here goes (not that bad really!) First pregnancy, OH and I went out on a boat trip, was seriously bumpy, ramming my pelvis into the bench below, when I was about sixteen weeks. We were in Greece, so I crossed my fingers for that one. But the rest of the pregnancy went ok (minus the itching, spd and horrendous swelling).
Pregnancy number two, slipped over on some wet rocks, I was about fourteen weeks, again just crossed my fingers. And then the day before giving birth, I slipped over on an icy step!
They were both fine and I am not intending any more so I should be ok.
As for the leg/bum thing, they changed where they did it between my two pregnancies, I am prettuy sure it is arm only nowadays.

whysoserious · 16/07/2012 22:29

I've only ever had it in my arm, never bum. It's supposed to go into muscle and I'm not sure the needle could reach through all the fat in my arse to get to the muscle Blush

Right, need a talking to ladies. I got into my car earlier and did my seatbelt up but it was really tight over my bump before I slipped it down. This is a ridiculous thing to worry about is it not? A tight seatbelt over bump in a stationary car is not a reason for anti D is it???

OP posts:
MrsReiver · 16/07/2012 22:57

I don't think so WhySo, try not to worry about it. Your baby is well protected in there.

The location of anti-d injection probably changes from nhs trust areas, I definitely had it in my right thigh in August. I remember because it was the exact same spot I had it in when I had DS. And the creepy warm sensation was just the same.

minipie · 17/07/2012 13:16

I'm not especially accident prone but keep having little bleeds (unknown cause Confused) so had lots of anti D too!

I've had anti D both in my upper bum area and in my arm... both at the same hospital. I think I was asked where I preferred to have it.

Tight seatbelt definitely not a cause for alarm I would say whyso. It would need to be something that causes bleeding internally.

whysoserious · 17/07/2012 16:16

I feel very confused about what I should and shouldn't worry about at the mo. Confused am going to put a call out to midwives on here that can help

i was asking her today when id need it and why etc. now any bleeding down 'there' or hard knocks im to go in. nothing like nose bleeds or anything. i asked about how hard a knock... eg my yorkie jumping on me and she said only if i feel bruised.... the she preceeded to do the doppler n she wa pressing it quite hard.... harder than my dog landing on me so my minds at ease.... for today.
