I got a BFP this morning. First baby. We have been trying for precisely 3 weeks. I haven't even had the chance to have a normal post pill period yet. DH now thinks he has super sperm and is congratulating himself. I, on the other hand am shitting myself.

You sound like me 3 years ago Grin

Congratulations. DD has just brought in the old barbecue grill as a 'gift' Confused

girlindevon · 15/07/2012 11:29

Nice!

Also over the past 3 weeks ( as well as get pregnant clearly ) I have had two x-rays of ankle, a large number of painkillers and a large amount of alcohol. I feel guilty already.

crazypaving · 15/07/2012 11:30

congratulations!! I know lots of people who've got utterly twatted on booze whilst unknowingly pg, and their babies have all been 100% fine. Don't worry, just do it as right as you can from now on!

gardenpixies32 · 15/07/2012 11:46

Congratulations!

We conceived in the first month too and twins! DP also believes he has Super Sperm!

Fatted · 15/07/2012 11:50

I was the same with the alcohol, by my calculations had drunk more in the time between it happening and finding out than I had done in months of trying! DH's theory is it was the alcohol that helped it happen ;-) as long as you cut it out now you will be fine!

Pinkflipflop · 15/07/2012 12:03

Congratulations! I'm also pregnant with a shock baby! We weren't even trying Confused Hmm Blush

girlindevon · 15/07/2012 13:54

Pink - I am shocked enough - must have been worse for you!

MIL once told DH that she was worried that his sperm may have been damaged by using a laptop on his lap. DH is not worried about this and is now convinced that his baby will be born with radioactive powers ala Spiderman.

I have just been out and bought more tests (as I believe is the tradition), retested and yep still pregnant.

This happened to my best friend. She believed that her husband who was 40, drinks and smokes, would be almost infertile so it would take ages.. 3 weeks later a positive test. She was VERY shocked but is very happy with her almost two year old now.
Mind you I was also very shocked after 3 years of trying to find one day was pregnant. Shitting yourself is how it is in first pregnancy, no other way of describing it!

Don't feel guilty about the last 3 weeks, you know now and nice and early so will stop all the stuff you are not supposed to do. many ladies don't find out for a lot longer and all is fine.

Conratulations to you and supersperm!

ItsMyLastOne · 15/07/2012 14:28

I was told I was infertile, I drank a lot at the time, DP smoked cigarettes and cannabis constantly. Yet we still managed to conceive within about 6 weeks of being told I was infertile so not bothering with contraception! Needless to say all the drinking and smoking stopped immediately, and we now have a very healthy 22 month old.

It's definitely scary and I was scared till the end but DD is the best thing that ever happened to us and I couldn't imagine life without her. FWIW I'm 20 weeks pg with DC2 and am petrified all over again!

Northernexile · 15/07/2012 14:45

Ah congrats! This happened to me last year. My now 4mo bundle of gorgeousness is currently asleep on my lap. I thought after ten years on the pill it would take AGES, but my DH also puts it down to his 'super-swimmers'. The smug smile didn't wear off for months!

Northernexile · 15/07/2012 14:46

I also did about four tests, just in case!

HaitchJay · 15/07/2012 18:31

I'm having a surprise too. Dd3 took 5 months to conceive & I was still on the pill while we discussed dc4.
Dh was strutting round the house when I told him though.

mylittlemonkey · 15/07/2012 20:08

Congrats! I also have got pg twice on first month of trying so it does happen and I warn my friends of this when they say things like 'I am going to come off the pill and start trying as it will probably take at least 5 months and we will be ready for another one then'.

With my DS I went on a 4 day holiday to Palma and found out I was pg when I got back. I was drunk constantly from the aeroplane there to the aeroplane back, went clubbing til very early hours and barely ate. DS is absolutely fine and a very strapping 2 year old so don't worry about that. It will take a few weeks to sink in and then you will be signing up for pg email weekly updates and pg phone apps before you know it.

girlindevon · 15/07/2012 20:34

Thanks for the reassurance - nice to know that others have hit the bottle before their BFP's!

OP posts:
ButtonBoo · 15/07/2012 21:34

Congrats!!! We were the same. Stopped taking the pill and was pg within 2 weeks. And yes...my DP has 'super sperm' too apparently!!

Hope you enjoy your pg!

phoenixrose314 · 16/07/2012 06:01

Doctors told me I'd never have kids. They put me on hormone therapy as a way to ease the pain, but it meant I had to come off he pill as the hormones would clash. Three weeks later and BAM I was pregnant.

Just like you, hubby thinks he has Super Sperm, but is shitting himself as much as I am honestly! I wanted this more than anything, but now it's happening it's like all I can think about are all the millions of things that could go wrong, and wondering whether I can do this, and hoping my husband won't get bored of me when I'm all big and lumpy and grumpy.

Panic Panic Panic

And breathe..........

WhispersOfWickedness · 16/07/2012 06:13

Another one whose DH thinks they have super sperm here! Both DC conceived the first month of trying. DH has recently had the snip and I'm not letting him near me without extra contraception until the results come back that it has worked Grin
I remember the shock feeling well, you will be fine though Smile My main advice would be to sleep and go to the loo on your own while you still can Grin

Phoenix - I am joining you in the deep breathing. The worrying has started - was up at 5am panicking, how to tell work, when to tell other people, miscarriage, getting fat, life change, DH likely to be working away for the first six months after the baby is born, oh god giving birth (I watched One Born Every Minute - I know how this goes), hiding the already giant wabs at work so people won't guess, maternity clothes, what if the baby hates me, what if the cats don't like it, I am even worrying about watching TV when pg so I don't damage the babies brain (WTF!!!), worrying about worrying, now I am sounding like a complete crazy person.

This feels like something that happens to other people, not to me. I don't think I've had enough sleep.

For all those whose DH/DP claim to have supersperm (like mine does), my favourite retort is to point out that in fact he could have dribblers and he is just lucky that I produce eggs like sponges... Wink

Westcountrylovescheese · 16/07/2012 08:11

Ps congratulations OP!

PetiteRaleuse · 16/07/2012 08:18

Congratulations.

We took over 2 years and a couple of mcs to get DD1 and assumed it would be similarly hard to get another DC.

DD2 is already on her way after one unprotected attempt. DH also boasts about his superpowers.

Dualta · 23/07/2012 21:16

Haha! Congratulations - you will laugh about this in future...we had an identical story - I even said to OH...now don't get too excited, it often takes people many months to conceive - just to manage your expectations.....so I was as shocked as you are when the bfp turned up two weeks later!

we have a 9mo DS now who is brilliant fun and the whole journey has been incredible.

Best experience ever, especially when you are on your own with them just after they are born getting to know them. Dreamlike!

phoenixrose314 · 24/07/2012 06:09

I watch OBEM too, we started watching it a couple of years ago when we first began trying, so I could be prepared for the worst... Wishing I hadn't seen them all now!!! Freaking out that I'm going to poo myself or have to have a C-section or something will go wrong with the baby... Oh god oh god oh god!!!

On the plus side, pregnant :) Yay!
