We have come back from our lovely holiday today and my DH ahd to make an emergency stop due to an idiot in front!

I'm 16 wks pregnant i didn't suffer any damage was obviously shook up and worried but ok. My local hosp have told me to go in for a scan tomorrow which is great of them.
I'm not bleeding orr in pain just feel very tired and got backache. I know in my heart everything will more than likely be fine but i've suffered 2 m/c in the last yr so i'm a bit of a worry wort anyway.

Any comforting advice??

It's impossible to know, but I really think it'll all be fine. It's easy to worry about things. If its any reassurance I came off a cantering horse at 14 weeks and all was fine.

If it makes you feel any better I had a car crash at 20 weeks. Hit a car in front of me then hit again by a 4x4 so 2 pretty hard bumps. I went to mw and everything was fine, she said babies are very well protected in there, esp early on with all the fluid. I'm sure your LO will be fine xx

Thankyou both do feel better, kind of feel a bit daft for worrying as compared to your two it was nothing. Glad all turned out ok for you both.

Not the same thing but I fell down a full flight of stairs at about that stage and baby was absolutely fine, I on the other had was covered in bruises had a painful pelvis and sprained an ankle so it's not like it was a little fall.

BBisHavingAnotherBBaby · 14/07/2012 17:42

Hope your baby is ok, i fell up an escalator at 6 weeks PG with my DS he was ok, DC2 is quite frequently bumped into things or by his or her over excited brother!! seems to be ok (am 15 weeks an starting to feel flutters) from the feel of things. My MIL came off a motorcycle at 7 months gone why she was on it is another bloody thread and DP was fine. Shame that idiots make you have cause to worry though people on the road can be such twats!

Just a quick point (which you probably already know, but its safest to wear the lap part of your seat belt above your bump (under your boobs) regardless of bump size, so that when the seat belt tightens it doesn't damage baby. Thats just what the MW told me anyway wont use her exact wording as think it was scaremongering word choice

Wombat33 · 14/07/2012 17:51

Bb I don't want to criticise your midwife when I'm not certain of the facts myself but op you may want to double-check the seat belt position advice. I always thought below your bump was meant to be safest...

BBisHavingAnotherBBaby · 14/07/2012 17:56

Hmm wombat she was a student and she got shit loads wrong so you criticise away! Her exact words were dont wear your seat belt over middle of bump as if you crash it will separate baby's spinal cord and above better but didnt say why? Confused

Wombat33 · 14/07/2012 18:09

Oh dear bb she sounds like she still had a bit to learn!! Hope her errors didn't cause you any problems. I think she's right that wearing the belt across your bump is not a good idea (but her comment about the spinal cord has got to be rubbish, hasn't it? surely any harm would totally depend on position of mum and baby and circumstances of the crash??). I think (not an expert) that wearing the belt below the bump across your pelvis is supposed to put the force of the belt onto your (relatively robust) pelvis as much as possible rather than onto your bump or soft tissues/organs that are less able to withstand the forces generated in a crash. I didn't have one but I believe there's a seatbelt attachment you can buy to keep the belt in the correct position when you're pregnant.

Hope that helps!

BBisHavingAnotherBBaby · 14/07/2012 18:13

I did think that you know, she got my name wrong so i shouldve guessed!

JarethTheGoblinKing · 14/07/2012 18:17

Seatbelts go across the lap all the time, rather than your belly.

BBisHavingAnotherBBaby · 14/07/2012 18:23

Im actually quite Angry now as she was very specific and that is what ive been doing, wont be from now on!! Who should I notify? She needs to be corrected

noblegiraffe · 14/07/2012 19:16

A bus ran into the back of my car when I was 12 weeks pregnant. The doctor said there was no need to worry as the baby would have been well cushioned by amniotic fluid.

HappyLittleLady · 14/07/2012 20:18

This is something someone told me to do in my first pregnancy as I was worried all the time that I could hurt baby by little bumps, fast movements, in the car etc. Get a glass jar (jam jar, sauce jar) fill it to the rim with water and put an egg in it, put the lid on and shake it! The egg won't break and apparently that's how protected our babies are :-) I'ts a bit silly I know but it helped me to calm down abit haha x
