Anyone broken the rules and had a jacuzzi while preggers?

I'm just wondering if anyone did it and it was ok? I've had a few probs in this pregnancy so I better not risk it. But I'm going to a spa day and I'm desperate just to jump in and let it bubble my troubles away. I can't understand why it is supposed to be dangerous.

I would do it as long as I felt comfortable not sweating hot, and probably only for 20 minutes or so. Sitting on outside with feet in makes more sense.

There is a greater risk of air embolism during pregnancy, which is which you need to be, em, careful about where air goes, in, say, a jacuzzi, or during oral sex!

hmmm thanks all, I probably won't risk it as I'm a bit of a wimp. But I might dangle in my legs if the urge is too much. Was never sure what bath advice was and had hundreds of hot baths in last pregnancy - no time for that this time round as too busy looking after dd!

I went in a hydrotherapy pool yesterday and I was freezing... Really enjoyed it tho xxxx

I have been a few times in the last few weeks. The thermoeter in the spa said the jacuzzi temp was 36', which AFAIK is below the limit of 38. Boy it felt good. I love jacuzzis! provided they arent too bubbly or too hot i dont see the problem with it. I only stayed in about 10 mins at a time.

I mean we are not allowed have wine, we are not allowed have soft cheese, we have to have SOME vices!

In the first trimester as the baby forms, core body temperature may play a role in physical development, that may include a risk of miscarriage so be sensitive to that. After that, temperatures of below 38 are fine, and for most women simply wanting to relax in the tub, the main risk appears to be fainting. I would not risk anything hotter than that though, especially for prolonged periods. Fever - classified as a core temperature above 38 - has a proven association with miscarriage and stillbirth, so why replicate this in a spa bath?

With regards to jacuzzi jets - avoid them, especially if they're powerful. I spent a spa day in the hydro therapy pool with jets on my back, followed by a sauna, and 6 hours later lost my plug, and a further 6 hours after that, all my waters. There was no other precipitating factor for my 6 weeks premature labour (such as infection). Thinking back, how noisy and hot must this sudden change of environment have felt to my bump? Perhaps the baby considered it more of a risk to stay put? Don't risk it.

Finally, too frequent baths, especially the bubbly kind, can predispose you UTI's which have a miscarriage and stillbirth risk, so again, on balance, is it really so bad to stick to showers the majority of the time?

I did it. Didn't sit directly on the jets! Tbh the temperature is never seems hotter than an ordinary bath but it could be I have visited crappy jacuzzis!

I have done at 9 weeks in my first pregnancy and at 36 weeks in this pregnancy. Both times I limited myself to 10 minutes to avoid overheating and avoided jets ( no sitting on them, none against back and bump). So basically it was very much like a warm bath. I wouldn't hesitate to go in for a short while post 30 weeks again but I'm not sure I would go in earlier, mainly as I've since had a miscarriage (although didn't go near a Jacuzzi in that pregnancy) and it makes you a lot more cautious.

I would not risk it. I read the Jacuzzi can cause abnormalities, malformations & miscarriage. It's the equivalent of making a soup out of your baby or hot tea. I also read that fetus cannot regulate their body's temperature. Therefore, it's common sense to not expose them to extreme temperatures. In fact, my friend didn't know she was pregnant & did the jacuzzi. She's on week 6 & so far they can't hear her baby's heart beat. I just put my legs inside, I can wait for jacuzzi for my baby's well being...
