Red liquorish (sp?) twists. DH ate them all!

My hospital wouldn't allow anything other than water during labour (MLU, low risk birth). Luckily the lovely senior MW (i had 3 present) let me have my sports drinks.

It might be worth checking before you make too many plans :-)

MrsHuxtable · 13/07/2012 20:43

I packed a massive stash but didn't want to eat at all during labour. I projectile vomited. On DH! Grin

The best thing I packed was a few bottled og Lucozade Sports Drink. Tasted nice and kept my energy up!

Seriously, get the Lucozade Sports Drink!!!!

openerofjars · 13/07/2012 20:50

Yyy to isotonic sports drinks and cereal bars: I can't imagine trying to eat anything complicated like a sandwich or anything too whiffy in labour. You don't want to have a mouthful of, say, tuna mayo sandwich in your mouth as a contraction starts: it would be most offputting!

The sports drinks were ace: I could feel the energy rush as they kicked in.

I was planning on taking energy drinks and cereal bars but I have a strong suspicion anything I have with come back up after a whiff of gas and air!

LizaTarbucksAuntie · 13/07/2012 20:56

Graze boxes might be your friend here.

I have some vouchers somewhere for free snack boxes..pm me if you want

tazmo · 13/07/2012 22:43

I never felt like eating and was sick both times. But I hear it is better to keep energy levels up. I could only stomach isotonic drinks!

Clarella · 13/07/2012 22:44

Bugger. no tea?! How will I cope?!

bluebean · 14/07/2012 00:34

I had those Eat Natural cereal bars in the early stage. Great for easy to eat energy. Although I fear they may have contributed to the rather embarrassing rabbit style poo in the birthing pool...

Oh and yy to energy drinks. Midwife recommended I alternate with water, as too much can make you sick, apparently.

Flisspaps · 14/07/2012 00:43

ItsAll I'd like to see them stop a labouring woman eating if she chose to - ' allow is not an appropriate word to use when dealing with a competent adult'

rogersmellyonthetelly · 14/07/2012 09:49

I wouldn't recommend KFC hot wings. We grabbed a snack en route to hospital. It did not taste as good on the wAy out as it did on the way in.
My fave labour snack is kipplings fruit pies. Filling, high energy and fairly inoffensive should you vom them back up.

strawberrypenguin · 14/07/2012 09:55

I didn't eat during labour but I took cereal bars in my hospital bag.

Kazriina · 14/07/2012 10:07

For some reason after DD2 I wanted plain cheese sandwiches, white bread! I ate them by the bucket load!

ellesabe · 14/07/2012 18:35

Jelly beans - small, sweet and a welcome distraction trying to guess the flavour each time :)

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 14/07/2012 19:54

"See that's what I'm after rogers inoffensive regurgitation foods"

don't eat any crisp/cracker based snacks, apples or strawberries then!!

noblegiraffe · 14/07/2012 20:07

and may I reiterate definitely not any tuna and cheese paninis. Don't make the mistake I did.

Kazriina · 14/07/2012 21:53

Eurgh crackers, I did the whole dry food thing with a virus at the beginning of my pregnancy, cream crackers are definatly worse coming back up!

I'll be sure to avoid tuna for the next few weeks too!

I'll end up sticking to sweeties I think, chocolate gives me acid reflux at the minute. Sad
