Clomid when you ovulate?

posting here for any stories from people who have had success with clomid when you fall into unexplained infertility. This is what my consultant would like me to do as he maintains that 50 per cent of his ovulating unexplained patients conceive in clomid and has the stats to prove it from last year, many after two years of trying. The clinic monitors clomid cycles. I'm still not convinced and feel wary of it. I've had 16 cycles and a whole lot of gaps in trying due to surgery so even though it looks like we've been trying longer than that we actually haven't. He knows this. Any thoughts? My understanding is that most research points to it not being statistically better than a placebo. But success stories would be interesting to hear, or opinions on how it helps, he was very vague about that. Thank you.

Hi Rabbit - I was prescribed Clomid as was having regular periods but when a blood test was done I didn't appear to be ovulating. I got pregnant on my second cycle of Clomid and am now 31 weeks pregnant. I had been trying for 2 years previously and had been on the depo injection prior to that which may have had something to do with it. It worked for me - even if it's no better than a placebo what have you got to lose by giving it a go?

Good luck xxx

We were trying for 20 cycles and had a HSG followed by one round of Clomid and got pregnant. I was definitely ovulating so was surprised that it worked but was happy to try it :)

I am now 18 weeks pregnant.

FreeButtonBee · 13/07/2012 22:49

First round of Clomid and now 9 weeks pregnant with twins!!! Was trying for about 16 months prior to the clomid

FriendofDorothy · 13/07/2012 23:07

Ooo congrats. I really wanted twins and have to admit that I was quite disappointed when it turned out to be just one! (although it may have been twins to start with as I had a bad bleed at 7 weeks)

My clomid conception (on cycle #2) is now nearly 11 months old.

I was in the same situation as yourself, had a whole load of tests and couldn't find anything wrong :)

lambinapram · 14/07/2012 11:41

15 months of trying, all the test done everything normal on both sides. Got pregnant first time on Clomid. However had also recently started acupunture and a been given herbs by acupunturist as well, which could have helped. I had to stop the herbs before taking the clomid though.

Also ,did anyone get it explained as to clomid actually helps if you already ov?

FriendofDorothy · 14/07/2012 20:55

No - no real explanation as to why it works if you are already ovulating. Of course, there is every possibility that it was the HSG that made the difference not the Clomid. We will never know!

Nospringflower · 14/07/2012 21:13

I had clomid after a miscarriage then it taking about 6 months for periods to get back to normal. Had a second miscarriage so after that was prescribed low dose of clomid to regulate periods with scans to check not producing too many eggs. Was pregnant on 3rd or 4th cycle then went on to have two more children then two more miscarriages

Sophlou1402 · 14/07/2012 23:51

Hi all, I took a three month course of clomid ending aug 2011 after three years of unexplained infertility and being put on IVF waiting list. A marriage proposal from better half on new years eve took our minds off stressing out over trying to get preggers and I'm now 29 weeks pregnant with a healthy boy, all progressing nicely!! Apparently our gyno said it can sometimes take a few regular cycles to kick in egg production so hang on in there, and as cliche as it sounds, the minute you stop obsessing over it, miracles do happen! Good luck all xxx

rabbitonthemoon · 15/07/2012 07:26

These tales are so uplifting - congratulations on getting there Smile I think I'm going to give my body a rest for a few months and then give it a try. Dare I ask about symptoms? As bad as they say?

I took clomid after about 24 months of trying, had had all tests & was classed as 'unexplained fertility' became pregnant after 2nd cycle of it and now am pregnant again with no help at all and it happened very quickly (in cycle terms nothing else iyswim!!) We were convinced 2nd time would take just as long as the first so very surprised and pleased.
I can't remember the side effects being bad - remember if u read all the side effects on anything you'd never take any medicine
Good luck

FriendofDorothy · 15/07/2012 07:45

No symptoms at all for me, even though I was looking for them!

Buttertart · 15/07/2012 08:32

We tried unsuccessfully for a year and a half on our own. My cycles were very irregular after I finished BFing DS1, but on the whole, I did seem to be ovulating. Hospital clinic found nothing of note, so labelled me as having 'unexplained fertility', but wouldn't do anything else as I was too old and had a DC. I knew I had a short luteal phase, so bullied them into giving me clomid. Took it for one cycle, with no side effects, and I'm know BFing my lovely DS2! No way to know for sure if it was the clomid, but that's my story.

Buttertart · 15/07/2012 08:33

*now, not know!

Buttertart · 15/07/2012 11:53

Yikes. Obviously meant unexplained INfertility! Blush

rabbitonthemoon · 16/07/2012 12:10

I wonder how it works?more targets? Different kind of egg?

Very valuable info and hopeful, inspirational contribution ladies. Please share on WHICH cycle days and WHAT DOSEAGE you were on. Thankyou. X

FriendofDorothy · 16/07/2012 12:32

I was on 50mg and took it from days 4-9 of my cycle. I only started on Day 4 because that was the day I saw the consultant and he told me to get on with it straight away!

WishingIWasLucky · 16/07/2012 13:00

Thanks FOD! Congratulations on your pregnancy! Wishing you an event free next few months. X
