I've been to consultant, they have had a look and think baby is measuring 32 weeks. Mainly head. This is dc2. I am sitting waiting for "proper" scan.

Is it anything to be concerned about? Will it impact on my plans to have a home birth.

Hello,
I have been measuring small throughout my pregnancy and had a growth scan at 29 weeks. (Generally I am between 1 and 3cm below what I should be.)

From what I understand - the measurement is not an exact science so it is easy to vary by a cm or 2 just with different people measuring it. The babies position can also impact it - at my 36 week appointment I was 34cm (with optimistic measuring from the midwife) but as the head was engaged and the baby was low that would most likely explain it. Strong tummy muscles can also mean that you hold the baby in making your bump measure smaller.

When I had a growth scan my baby was above average in size and the fluid level was good. They will check the level of amniotic fluid, if the baby is small they will check that the umbilical cord has a good supply. They may ask you to come back to check that the baby has grown and if there are problems they may choose to get the baby out early. (Which could impact having a home birth but it is an unlikely outcome.) Please try not to worry about it.

I know quite alot of people who have had growth scans and in all of them things have been fine and none of them have needed any extra care.
