Hi everyone, found out on Monday I'm 1-2 weeks pregant according to ClearBlue which NHS website tells me is 5-6 weeks.

I was overjoyed to find out GrinGrinGrin just turned 39 and was worried I might be leaving things a bit late Wink!!

Felt really bloated all day yesterday and had uncomfortable all over crampy stomach ache which is worse today but my digestion is normal. I feel really really grumpy which is unlike me and my boobs which had been really sore seem to be getting better...

I've now spotted a little bit too. A single red-brown spot this morning and then when I pee'd I noticed the paper was very slightly brownish. Almost like I'm about to get my period.

I've googled this and can see that people often get pains along their left side, but mine is kind of like all over and in the middle under my belly button.... so I'm not sure if this is par for the course or not. Is 5-6 weeks too late for implantation pain? How much does that hurt - a lot or um like stomach ache?! Also I don't really feel nauseaous which I thought I would - I just feel generally right out of sorts and not myself.

Confused

Haven't seen my doctor yet as I thought I'd wait 3 more weeks until I'd missed 2 periods...

I know you're not doctors or anything but I just wanted to check the collective intelligence to discover if I'm freaking out and worrying over nothing as this is the way early preganacy rolls, or if I need to take action of some kind...

I'm a bit paranoid I think as my mum (former nurse) told me if you're partner has a different blood group to you, you'll miscarry. Hubby went to doc who gave him a blood test but didn't check his blood group - grrr!

Thanks in advance to all and any with wisdom to share! Thanks

Peace, luv & hugs

Aches and pains are normal in the first few weeks of pregnancy. They can feel a lot like period pains, and I think are just the uterus expanding a little, getting more blood supply etc.

The spotting is less normal, but still normal! I think I've read about 30% of women get spotting early in labour, and continue on to have normal pregnancies and healthy babies.

However, spotting and cramps together may cause your doctor or midwife to send you for an early scan. It could be worth phoning your local midwife unit or Early Pregnancy Support Unit (most hospitals have one I think) to check with them. I had a very early scan with my bean and though it's far too early to see a baby, or even embryo, you should see an egg sac and possibly yolk and fetal pole. If you're 6-7 weeks you may see a heartbeat also.

There's no real benefit to waiting a couple more weeks to miss another period, it's not necessary before registering with your doctor or midwife. That said, there's no problem with waiting either - you won't get seen by anyone till your "booking in" at about 10 weeks.

As to the different blood groups causing a miscarriage. This is completely wrong! So don't worry about this. There could be a problem if you are a particular blood group (RhD+), but this is not normally an issue with your first pregnancy, and will be tested for at your booking in appointment with your midwife.

Congratulations, and good luck.

Utter nonsense about the different blood groups. I think the human population would die out if that was true!

My first pregnancy, I was convinced my period was about to start for weeks. Felt mild cramping which I think was just stretching and I had a wee bit of spotting at 7 weeks. DS is now nearly 2.

slinkysammysam · 11/07/2012 18:43

Thanks a lot stacks & picklesarnie Thanks - never thought I'd be a panicker but its a lot to process! Will see the doc to be sure but feel a lot better having heard your views & experience. Never thought first sign of pregnancy would feel like gut rot/period onset rather than earth mothery-ness! Lol Wink #rosetintedglasses.com

I feel very bloated and in pain/tender in that area too, I'm 5-6 weeks according to NHS aswell! Must have concieved around the same time :) I'm a happy mum-to-be and I was a bit worried about the pain but I just hoped it was my body adjusting.

Spiritedwolf · 11/07/2012 19:54

It's worth getting checked out early to rule out an ectopic pregnancy if you're having pains. So I wouldn't wait 3 weeks.

However, try not to worry too much, many women have spotting and aches and still have healthy pregnancies.

Chaotica · 11/07/2012 20:01

Good luck, OP. I hope all goes well.

I think some of the posters and your mum are wrong: there is some evidence that difference in blood group can affect viability of pregnancies (ABO incompatibility and not just rhesus). However, this is a big 'might' and not something to worry about unless you have recurrent miscarriages, especially when you don't know you and your partner are incompatible.

Pinkie29 · 11/07/2012 20:15

Fx for you op, I know a fair few people who had bleeding early on in pregnancy and all had healthy babies Smile

We found out at 4 weeks (9 and a half now) and for the first two weeks I was convinced af would arrive as I had near constant cramping not too painful but annoying and worried me! Mw assured me it's perfectly normal especially with your first as the womb is stretching in a completely new way, don't worry about not feeling the nausea I'm sure that will rear its ugly head very soon, I suffered badly from 6-8 and it varies now but mostly exhausted!

goosey123 · 11/07/2012 20:32

I'm a bit behind you, only 4 and a bit weeks, and I knew I was pregnant because of the wierd achey bloaty pooey pains, and lower back pain. This is my 3rd pregnancy, and I had the same with the other 2.

And with my first pregnancy I had some very pinky spotting about 6 weeks (she is now 4). No sickness or boob pain for me either at the moment, I quite want it to kick in so it reassures me all is going to plan, but I will regret saying that as soon as it does! good luck.

slinkysammysam · 12/07/2012 16:07

Isn't it funny that we want to feel sick and have sore boobs so we feel reassured Grin. Oddly boobs feel less sore today, bloating less and now I've lost about a spoonful of dark colour blood.... Nervous. Been to doc. Let see what happens...

Hi Sam,

I hope your docs appointment went well and all is good.

I'm in the same boat as you, aged 37, feeling like I'm the oldest mom-to-be in the world and 5 weeks pregnant (first one for me).

So far I've got the sore boobs, constant peeing, no appetite and felt queasy this morning.

slinkysammysam · 12/07/2012 18:26

Good luck op, although you're actually only 3-4 weeks pregnant. The clearblue digital works on the basis that you add 2 weeks to whatever number is shown, so 1-2 is 3-4, 2-3 is 4-5 and 3+ is 5 weeks and over. :)

Congrats again!

Imnotaslimjim · 12/07/2012 21:30

Hope things are ok for you, though it is just a waiting game

Just wanted to point out that the different blood group thing is kind of right

If you are Rh- and your partner is Rh+, it can cause problems in consequent pregnancies, hence the need for anti-D. Please don't worry about it for now though, as its a first pregnancy it doesn't matter. You'll have blood taken at your booking in, and they'll test for you blood type then
