Nappies

I have been trying to get some nappies each time I'm paid to make things a bit easier once the baby is here and money is tight. I've just been getting whatever is on special offer of the usual big brands (pampers, huggies etc). Is there any particular brand/kind that are better? And how many am I looking at? I've been getting size 9-20lbs mostly. Don't want to get too many newborn tiny ones in case I have a heifer lol. Any input from the experienced would help a lot!

Have you had a look in the reviews section? there's loads of reviews from mums on alternative brands. I think some of the supermarkets own brands come up tops compared to the bigger labels x

No sammy I haven't. I don't stray out of talk section tbh. Thanks for that I'll have a look.

Dd was 8lb when she was born but was in size 1 nappies until she was 12 weeks. You may also find that some brands just don't suit your dc. Sorry that's not much help but it can be hard to know beforehand. We like Tesco and Pampers nappies, never had a leak with either Smile

I'd get one small pack of size 1 nappies - they go up to 11lb so I'd reckon you have more chance your baby will weigh less than 11lb, than they they will weigh more than 9lbs (IYSWIM?).

However, honestly I wouldn't stock pile nappies. Its a great idea and I'd certainly put the money aside, but each baby is a different size and shape and it takes a little experimenting to find the right nappy for your baby. For example, Huggies just didn't fit DD around her skinny little legs and so if we'd stock-piled those, we would have been cleaning up after accidents for about six weeks Grin

Thanks spotty and nelly I did think that it might actually end up costing me if the nappies weren't suitable for whatever reason. I'll stockpile wipes instead :)

Check with your local council to see if they offer an incentive for using reuseables. Many London boroughs give £54 towards the initial cost. They are supposed to work out cheaper in the long run too, especially if you use for more than one baby.

Huggies and pampers were best for both of my dc.

I use nature baby biodegrade able nappies just because they are green and I prefer them. I try to only buy in boots or Tesco for the points. Boots do 3 for 2 on all the baby stuff every now and then so I buy loads. I save the boots points for baby on the way. Over 2.5 years I have accrued £100 on the advantage card.
Otherwise as far as I could tell, also nappies were identical to pampers and a bit cheaper
