Moving to Glasgow - how to get into the ante-natal care system

Hi, I'm about 9 weeks and due to move from Sheffield to Glasgow in 3 weeks time. Just had my booking appointment and the midwife suggested I probably wouldn't get my scan in Sheffield in time, so she's given me a referral to send off to the appropriate people in Glasgow.

I'm moving to Bishopbriggs, obviously won't be registered with a gp until we get there - does anyone know how to contact midwifery services?

Jenny- you are moving 10 mins away from me Grin. Here you just register with the doctor surgery and they will refer you on to midwife/hospital. I'm guessing you will be visiting and giving birth in the princess royal. Hope this helps. Oh and congratulations on the pregnancy!

Problem is that I'm a bit worried that by the time GP registration goes through and I actually make contact with the midwife I'll be quite late for the first scan/bloods etc so was trying to organise it in advance. Thanks though, I'll try to see if I can contact anyone at the Princess Royal.

Any recommendations for GPs would be welcome...

Sorry, I don't really know any of the GP's. The Royal are quite slow with their ultrasound appointments, my ds didn't get her 12wk scan until she was 16wks and 20wk at 23wks! I gave birth at the Royal and found the antenatal/postnatal care fab.

Have you contacted what will be your local GP to ask? Just tell them about your situation & see if they can give you a number to call or advise what steps you need to take.

I did this in my last pregnancy, moved to Glasgow in last trimester & called what was to become my local GP a couple of weeks before the move & they registered me over the phone & I popped in to see them on arrival to reconfirm details etc.

I moved from elsewhere in Scotland.

I am in Scotland too -seconding what Heartbeep says -call what will be your GP and ask them for the number of your midwives clinic. I self-referred and got my scan date immediately on the phone (they still confirmed my pregnancy with my GP, but that was in retrospect, after giving me the scan date).

Oh, and congratulations on your pregnancy and welcome to Scotland! :)

Oh yes, congratulations on your pregnancy too!

Sorry was pre occupied earlier with DD who was the pregnancy in question - she's now 3 & wanted me to collect tickets on her imaginary train Smile

I moved from London up north when I was pregnant with ds, and I called the hospital I wanted to give birth at directly. I'd do that to be honest, more likely to get your scan date then.
