Feeling so lame with SPD. Im only 23wks and yet im struggling to walk today due to SPD agony.

I feel like I?ve had broke crockery inserted into front pubis region bit and then been kicked by elephant in said region then in my sacrum.

Im not in a good way. I feel so fucking lame ? I?m just rubbish at being pregnant. And now rubbish at being at work as a result.

Don?t want to tell people that I cannot do x,y,z due to the pain it will cause. If I do tell anyone about it, I feel lame and ashamed - that I should be keeping quiet and or be better at being pregnant. I feel that no one really gets it or believes me.

I am feeling sorry for myself today- feel free to ignore.

Thanks Kayz- will look at that band. Is your SPD better now ? Did it cause you issues in DDs birth?

Thanks Catsocks- I am sorry about the car crash- how terrifying. Were you and baby ok?

My job is similarly high pressure and Im coming to the realisation that I cannot do it all, as much as I'd like to. I will put myself and the baby first now... had a moment of realisation last night where i really dont want to pressure at this point in my life. The rest of the time I give what feels like my life and soul to work (and I enjoy work) but right now I cant.

It didn't cause any problems once I was in the pool but before I got in I struggled. My hips hurt if I was trying to stand up and if I was on all fours. I don't think I could have given birth in the typical lying on your back as if I opened my legs too wide it was agony.

It is better now except again for opening legs too wide. I tried to sit crossed legs on the floor with DS1 last night which really hurt. MW assured me when I was discharged from them that it'll be fine in a few weeks.

Gingerbreadlatte it is just a giant tubigrip (which I wear doubled) but I don't know that you'd be able to buy one big enough in the shops. Re crutches, I just walk with mine supporting the hip that is most painful, if that makes sense (so as it's my right hip that is particularly bad I put both crutches forward when I step forward on my right foot). I can go twice as fast when I'm using them!

The physio I saw privately in desperation before I could get in to see the NHS one recommended a velcro belt from Boots that just goes under the bump around your hips - apparently that helps to support them. I had an over and under the bump one last time which sounds like the one you have at the moment - didn't get on with it at all either!

McKayz ah the blessed relief of the birthing pool! It was bliss! I wish I could have a pool permanently on the go at home (I can't heave myself in and out of the bath any more) but no room sadly. I should try and swim more but especially on the days I'm working I don't have the time or the energy, especially by the time DS is in bed and dinner done.

Ooh another tip Gingerbreadlatte - I was told by the physio to get DH or the midwife to measure (closer to birth time obviously) how far you can comfortably open your legs. Last time I was in stirrups for the actual birth and it was the most painful thing ever - my legs were forced far further than they wanted to go. This way the physio said you can make sure that it's in your birth plan and that your birth partner can reinforce the fact that, should you need to go into stirrups etc, your legs aren't forced further than they can comfortably go.

I birthed on all fours due to my spd, you shouldn't give birth on your back!!!

McKayz · 10/07/2012 12:30

Barmee I would have left the pool in my front room after DD arrived if there was room. It was amazing.

I've heard so many times about women with SPD having to be put in stirrups and it's caused problems that continue long after they've had the baby.

BarmeeMarmee · 10/07/2012 12:42

I would have given birth in the pool if I could (hoping I'll be able to this time!) but unfortunately DS got stuck - they left me as long as they could (too long by the letter of the guidance!) but in the end had to use ventouse - hence the stirrups. Really hoping to avoid it this time.

Sorry been out!

Yes, we were both fine (car abit of a mess!), but it was as they say a moment of clarity. I just realised that nothing was THAT important compared to this baby. I had high blood pressure too, Amazingly it went down completely within 2 weeks of being signed off.

Just put you and your baby first, the rest will fall into place!

The physio's actually written in my notes that I shouldn't be on my back to labour or give birth, that she recommends on all fours or kneeling. Also been told to do the measuring to see how far I can open without pain.

OP, definitely get referred to NHS physio, the midwife should be able to do this, and make sure you're going to one who does women's obstetrics, not just generic.
