Hi I'm after a bit of advice if Possible, for the last 24 hours I have been having stomach cramps that vary in intensity, pain and frequency. I have phoned the midwives who said to call if they get to 10 mins apart but how long is this going to last, any ideas? I though they should stop when I move around etc but these are going on for longer, surely this can't go on until I start labour? I'm nearly 34 weeks thanks for any advice

I had very strong BH from about 35 weeks. They would come minutes apart and I'd get really bad period pain with them. I spoke to the MW who said it was normal and just my body getting ready for birth. It was awful some days. I remember being in the cinema at 37 weeks and during the film they got so bad I thought I was going to be sick. DD wasn't born until 39 weeks. Do you have a birthing ball? I found that bouncing on that helped a lot, as did walking.

Keep an eye on it though, because during my actual labour my contractions varied in intensity and time apart at first, then they became more regular and the pain stayed.

Hope that helped xx

If you are 34 weeks i am surprised they didn't ask you to go in as they aren't easing when you move. Drinking more and a warm bath can also help. I had the same and was told to go in and had an infection. Cramps went as soon as I started antibiotics. I'd call triage if they are still persistent after trying to shift them.

Go in. They'll check on the monitor if they are really contractions. It'll be peace of mind for you. I had irregular but frequent contractions at 33 weeks - then lost mucus plug - then had DS all in the space of a few days. The cramps weren't strong though. Didn't really believe they were contractions til they hooked me up. A friend had similar but it was only constipation (!). As Midgetm says, it could be an infection.

Or just BH. Check it out. Best of luck.

When I called though the midwife was quite dismissive of it. It's definatly more painful this morning and I'm getting shooting pains through, what feels like, my cervix. I just don't want to seem paranoid but it's quite sore whenever I move Sad I guess I'm also being over cautious due to all the babies on my mums side for the last 3generations have been prem, up to 6weeks. scared

It will be a other midwife today. Call again. Better to be pushy than worried.

I have got an appointment to see the midwife so we shall see thanks again for the advice

The last few days have proven without a shadow of doubt how important it is to trust your instincts and body!!!!if I hadn't and had listened to the midwife advice over the phone I could have been in pre term labour!!!definitely will not feel like I'm being paranoid again! And thanks for every bodies advice Smile
