Just about finished my shopping, but I am interested if you have one indispensable recommendation to see me through the first six months. Thanks

Very interested so shameless bump

Flisspaps · 08/07/2012 20:25

A travel mug. The only way I got a hot drink for the first few weeks with DS, and the first few months with DD.

mummysmellsofsick · 08/07/2012 20:32

The babybay cosleeper cot

StateofConfusion · 08/07/2012 20:53

Muslins, a swing or vibrating chair, and despite my initial judgy pants dummys, saved my sanity --and nipples--

Agree with travel mug, also sports bottle, you always get thirsty stuck feeding a baby, breast or bottle!

Overcoming snobbery to have a constant stock of mr Kipling cakes- instant energy to go with the cup of cold tea (thermal mug is a great tip!) -pre preg I'd have been whipping up a cake myself

Pascha · 08/07/2012 21:08

Yes yes yes to the thermal mug. It has saved my sanity on many a morning with no time to take a sip more often than every twenty minutes.

Tumble drier would get my vote too.

nancerama · 08/07/2012 21:10

ISOFIX base for the car seat. No worrying about whether the baby seat is fitted properly. You just clunk and go.

rogersmellyonthetelly · 09/07/2012 08:37

Thermal cup with lid, swaddle blankets and car seat base as others have suggested. I didn't get on with muslins, I preferred newborn bibs as more absorbent!

Salhal · 09/07/2012 08:51

I agree with some sort of bouncy chair as can give you 5 or 10 minutes and you'll be surprised what you can do in that time!

Pootle78 · 09/07/2012 10:22

Second the isofix base, brilliant when the weather is rubbish, just click and go.

Also thoroughly recommend moist toilet tissue, was a god send for a few weeks!!!

MrsPaynie · 09/07/2012 10:25

A bouncy chair definitely, was ideal for sitting baby in just outside the bathroom door so I could have a shower in peace while still being able to see baby.
Also the Graco Sweetpeace swing, a godsend for colic fits at 3am!

Becky2011 · 09/07/2012 10:42

Sling so you can carry baby round with you hands free. Bravado sublime nursing bras (aaaaah) I think this was what I have. Soooo comfy. Lansinoh nipple cream. Baby sleeping bags. Tiny toes baby bath.

Elkieb · 09/07/2012 10:49

A jahgoo (sp?) bath support seat-about £12 for 0-6 months. Means you are hands free for bathing. Wriggly wet baby and wet hands= disaster!

Bobkins · 09/07/2012 14:18

Thank you everybody ! Hadn't even thought about a thermal mug x

Yes lansinoh if breast feeding!

EarnestDullard · 09/07/2012 15:52

Lots of muslins, but then DD was a puker. Invest in half a dozen but be prepared to stock up on lots more if needed!

Elkieb · 09/07/2012 16:56

Approx 30 bibs- I have this many but still run out!Hmm

PickleSarnie · 09/07/2012 17:12

Smart phone/ipod touch/anything you can surf the net on with one hand in the dark to stop you dropping off to sleep during nightly feeds.

Also, I second the bravado bras.

Passmethecrisps · 09/07/2012 19:09

Insulated mug? I would never have thought! It sounds genius though. I will add that to my list too.

Florin · 09/07/2012 19:17

I have 2 week old baby. Our best buys have been muslins we get through loads for a million and 1 uses. Baby bjorn baby bouncer-ds has just started liking it and will sit in it for about 20 minutes while I get jobs done. iPhone to keep you awake at night I would say is virtually essential.
A couple of cartons of ready to use baby milk and a steriliser incase feeding doesn't go to plan and you are desperate at 3 in the morning.

mummysmellsofsick · 09/07/2012 19:46

Oh yes, sling is essential. But don't get the one everyone gets, which hangs the baby on his pubic bone. The baby needs to sit in the 'froggy legs' position so there is fabric under his thighs as well as bottom, and the weight needs to sit on the wearer's hips not shoulders. Lots of info on the natural mamas forum about safe baby wearing
