Pregnancy

Talk about every stage of pregnancy, from early symptoms to preparing for birth.

Can anyone who's read 'childbirth without fear' sum it up in layman's terms for me please?

I've bought the book from Amazon as I'm 26 weeks pregnant with DC2. I'm finding it so hard to understand, I don't think I'm thick but the way he writes is so complicated I'm getting confused.

What main points stood out/made sense to you?

I don't have the time or energy to re-read every paragraph until it makes sense... Grr

Your body knows what to do, trust it, don't try to fight it. Feeling more stressed will make the labour worse.

That's most of it I think. It's a pretty heavy read, and ages since I read it though.

Think about labouring like an animal would, in the quiet, in the dark, somewhere you feel safe (think cat making a nest under your bed) A cat would hate to give birth with strangers coming in and out, putting the lights on, checking for 'progress'.

But what do I know, I had 2 sections in the end. I think it makes lots of sense though, just that my pelvis seems to be faulty Grin

If you can get hold of it, he also wrote The Birth of a Child. This is extracts from articles he wrote for Nursing Mirror and lectures, so the tone is probably lighter than Childbirth Without Fear, but does distil the essence well, (and give a picture of childbirth in 1947). I noticed that there were a couple for sale second hand on Amazon.
