Buffet breakfasts in Sweden!

I know this is a bit random....bare with me!

We are off on a week's break to Stockholm next week. Now I LOVE Swedish food, and especially Swedish buffet breakfasts, but is there anything I should stay away from? (Please say no!).

I adore rollmops/pickled herrings - presumably since they have been preserved they are OK?

Also, on TripAdvisor, our hotel reportedly has a smorgasbord of eggs, bacon, various cold meats, and cheese - PLEASE tell me I can eat all of this in abandon?

I've not been too anal about what I eat since I've been preggers, apart from staying away from soft cheeses and pates.

Please tell me it's OK to get stuck into the breakfast buffet!

If you were being really careful, you would only eat pasteurised cheeses, no deli cold meats, only eggs cooked through, and not rollmops because they aren't actually cooked.
If you feel happy to eat the buffet breakfast, then do so. The risks of getting food poisoning are probably higher in your Chinese takeaway down the road than a nice hotel in Sweden. It is your pregnancy and your choice and you sound pretty keen on this food!

Thanks. To be honest, I live in the Middle East anyway and run a daily gauntlet of fighting off food poisoning threats, so I guess anything in Sweden has got to be an improvement on what I'm currently eating! I have heard of people getting listeria from houmous and that's not normally considered risky.

I would. I went to Stockholm last year it was lovely really really nice. The breakfast was brilliant & dp ate three each morning!

There will be plenty of stuff even if your careful.

I'm massively jealous. Envy

Thanks guys :) I feel at my best (and hungriest) in the mornings and I am more excited about my smorgasbords than anything else on the holiday and I might even take my handbag down to breakfast and fill it up with supplies

Seriously, come 10am they are going to have to drag me away kicking and screaming from the breakfast room!

Pregnant women in Sweden eat all that so I am sure you can eat them too without exposing yourself and your baby to any harm.

I am in Sweden. I can vouch for the quality of the food (DH is a chef) and that pregnancy is taken very seriously here. Swedish women eat all that with no problems at all. Although if you like a glass of wine and are obviously pregnant, then you may get some funny looks. But I doubt you'll be drinking it at breakfast :)

I can't believe Sweden allows salmonella. There are probably massive government grants keeping bad bacteria in a soft padded cell with colour TV somewhere.

I am so Envy. I love Sweden.

Woohoo! Smorgasbord here I come! I'm so excited, used to live in Sweden when I was little and haven't been back since I was 15 when I got drunk and very ill on the Harwich-Goteborg ferry

Am intrigued by them "taking pregnancy very seriously" though, what are they going to do to me?! and can I milk it for freebies
