Is it something you would consider
If not, is it because of the cost or other reason?

Do you know anyone who has tried it, what was their experience?

If you have tried it did it work for you?

If yes, were you self taught or did you attend classes and did you throw yourself into it and practice often?

If no, did you attend the classes but not really practice that much?

Did you have your hypnobirth in a birthing centre, home or hospital?

Did you have an epidural, forceps delivery or c-section, do you think the hypnobirthing helped make the whole experience less traumatic?

I am very interested as I am going to be training as a hypnobirth teacher and I had had a hypnobirth myself which was very positive after two births which left me slightly traumatised. I would like to hear from other people who have experienced this postive/negative.

I tried with my 2nd birth but have to say hand on heart I did not totally throw myself into it. The next pregnancy from 5mths I practiced a few times a week, breathing, visualistions, affirmations and as my pregnancy went on I started doing it everyday and I really think this is what made the difference as it became second nature to me. My sister then did the same and although she ended up with an emergency c-section she said she felt calm and was not scared throughout so it was not a negative experience for her. Her first birth was also a c-section and she was left very shaken after.

Thank you

Hi,

I have been looking into this and am considering a course. I do think it's a bit expensive (£200 for 4 sessions) as I don't have much choice around where I live but the positive stories I've heard all make it sound as if it's worth every penny!

I'm only 21 weeks now and the lady who we're going to says to start around 30 weeks so I have a little time to wait yet.

Good luck with your training, let you know in November if it's worth the money!!

I'm thinking about just getting the CDs, the classes are too expensive. Not sure if this is still worth doing?

Hello - i just read the book and had a relaxation CD, (did not do course due to cost). It was def worth it!! In pregnancy i could not visualise so gave up and concentrated on breathing, but in labour (which took 2 days of being induced) i found my mind going off on it's own visualisations, whole experience was wonderful and I would tell anyone to try it.I had mine in hosp, no stitches, intervention once started - took 1.5 hrs. Good luck with your course, sure you will do very well :)

Thank you ladies, I had a similar experience and found the classes too expensive so used cds and book but really threw myself into it.

I plan on running a 15 week workshop meeting once a week for 90mins, this way it will not only be more affordable for people but they will be practicing with the group weekly, be encouraged to practice at home, be able to discuss any issues they have and I think it will help more people have a positive experience then squashing it into a few days. Where I live its about £300 for a two day course, not many people can afford that!!!

I will probably suggest just the women come alone for the majority of the classes and there would be some partner sessions too.

I think if you use the Mary ?? Methid you have to offer it over 4/5 sessions? I'm doing a course at the mo (28 weeks) and love it!

i did the hypnobirthing course with 1st DC which was much cheaper than other prices (about £150 for 6 sessions i think). i ended up having an emergency c section so can't really advise on the labour bit i/m afraid but it definatley made a difference to my pregnancy, i was more relaxed and in tune with the baby and wasn't scared about the birth.

i hate to say it but there was (for me ) a huge difference between reading the book/listening to the CD and actually doing the course, the course was really beneficial and the practioner was really experienced so i had lots of faith in her.

my sister hyponbirthed through her labour with her fourth child and said it was her most positive birth experience, very little pain even though her contractions were "off the chart" according to the midwife.

i think it's important to have a good birth partner because so much of it relies on you being relaxed and not afraid as the theory is that anxiety increases pain slows labour so you really need someone who can stay grounded and keep you calm. i'm hoping to have a vbac this time (now 23 weeks pregnant) and will definately be ready that Marie Mongan book and listening to her cd (other HB cd's don't seem as calming to me).

even if you don't hypnobirth i would recommend the excercises throughout pregnancy as a way of relaxing and bonding with te baby and partner.

Adivic - which book and CD did you use? I am really tempted by this - think I am going to enquire about courses in my area
