Hello all,

I am 11+3 and had my nuchal scan on Wed. The sonographer wouldn't tell me anything as she said the measurement means nothing without the blood results. She told me my measurement was 2.7 (after I insisted she tell me!) however on my maternity notes it said it was 2.9 so not sure if the sonographer gives the doctor the highest reading? Anyway - I have now driven myself demented reading various posts and am now terrified. I'm 36, diabetic on insulin (although have excellent control) and this is my first pregnancy. Does anyone have any advice for me apart from the obvious, i.e get a grip and stop researching the internet and does anyone know how long I need to wait for the results? They told me at the hospital I would either be written to or telephoned but they would only telephone if there was a problem so I'm now trying to second guess if they took my bloods Wed, when would they screen and send back to the hosp so if there was a problem when I am likely to be called??

God - I need a drink :(

xx

My hospital will phone you within 3 days if it's anything to worry about, so I'd have thought probably by the end of today (Monday at the very latest) - then you get a letter within 2 weeks if it's low.

2.9 is fine on its own, though you might be given a "high" reading anyway purely because of your age? (I'm not sure what the threashold is tbh, I could be wrong).

But either way I really wouldn't worry about it until/unless you're given something to worry about iyswim. They aren't 100% accurate (it's only a "chance" or liklihood of downs, rather than anything concrete) and worrying isn't good for you :)

Hi I was 2.9 mm this time round and bloods took down's risk tom1/20. Had an amnio and all was clear. When I,researched it, I believe being diabetic can skew the readings so best to wait and see. Try not to worry!

I didn't receive a call until a week and a half after the scan and bloods. Sorry! But I guess it will vary from place to place. I had a risk rating of 1:95 and went ahead with an amnio at 16 weeks. Thankfully all the results came back clear and I'm currently bf my 11 day old dd2.

2.9 is not a bad measurement and it's this combined with the bloods that will give you your risk rating. Your age might automatically move you up s notch on the rating - I was 39 when I was tested and that automatically put me at 1:127 before my nuchal and bloods were taken into consideration.

Best of luck, I'm sure everything will be fine but I know how nerve racking the wait is. Take care Smile

I had similar with DS, its true unless protein shows up in your blood they really can't call it iirc, your best bet is to phone ante-natal clinic everyday til your results are back, I left it for a week (they were sent from London to Birmingham to be tested so had to be patient) then rang every day, good luck
