Due in a few days.... nerve pains from engaged head?

Almost due with first baby, have had a pretty normal pregnancy so far.

For the last week or so have been getting shooting nerve pains whenever the baby moves it's head (which is almost fully engaged in my pelvis.) They are sharp shooting pains front and back lasting only a second or two but boy they hurt and make me shout/jump. I only feel them when baby squirming around and moving its head. (Very active baby!)

Last night was particularly bad and my partner was looking very worried indeed, glancing at the hospital bag as I was oooohing and ahhhing and grabbing my crotch (!!)

I'm feeling a bit confined to home now because it's started happening whilst out and about in public and I don't want to cause a scene/draw attention to myself.

I know it's not the start of labour, no signs of show, no period type pain, no broken waters etc..... just wanted some reassurrance that this is normal?! Also another 2 weeks of it feels a bit unbearable!

I have had quite a lot of the same - felt like I was being jabbed in the bladder (and/or further down...) with a knitting needle, particularly when the baby moved and I was walking downhill (unavoidable since I live at the top of a hill!). It's horrible, isn't it?!

It's actually eased off in the last week, but this is my third baby so maybe it's not engaged or has popped out again. Certainly didn't signify labour - am now overdue and absolutely no signs or pains at all any more.

Hello, I've jus walked to my car like a weirdo because of this aswell:( 37 weeks and it feels really horrible it's like on my bladder as she moves her head . I told my dp it feels like s knife jabbing me and I keep saying to her please keep ur head still lol I must look like a right loon Grin this is also my third and was told yesterday she is only 1/5 engaged but by this feeling I'm not so sure ?

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 06/07/2012 17:35

chops iirc someone on MN said that 1/5 is very engaged (as in only 1/5 is above the pubic bone) whereas 4/5 is not very engaged iyswim?

Cheekychops84 · 06/07/2012 19:03

Hi fluffy u are right I am 4/5 not 1/5 I'm a silly bat lol

Well it's reassuring to know I'm not alone, thanks Vicky228 and Cheekychops

I had a terrible time for about half an hour this afternoon - desperate for loo and doubled over struggling to get upstairs. But then this evening nothing at all ... come on out little one!
