Id be greatful for any reassurance or advice, first time pregnancy age 38, currently 8 weeks. Had scan on monday saw heartbeat and all ok. Normally i bound about full of energy and a zest for life and am always on the go!
However for the past week i physically cant move for fatigue, i can sleep for 12 hours, get up manage to shower and eat and then fall deeply asleep for another 2 or 3 hours? I have a list of things i want to be getting on with and have started dreading being invited to things as i just have no energy.
I understand that fatigue is part of first trimester symptoms but i think i underestimated the severity?! Is anyone else feeling/felt like this? its beginning to make me feel really low and tearful as i wake up and feel as tired as i did before and only see my "to do" list getting bigger!! Thanks for reading x

I think, unfortunately, it's pretty normal (especially if you've morning sickness too, I bet that really takes it out of you) - I was definitely sleeping a lot more in tri 1. You can speak to your MW if you're concerned, though?

PS, very jealous you have time to sleep for 15hrs a day/night :o

Oh yes. I completely underestimated the severity of the exhaustion too.

I was under the (very erroneous) impression that morning sickness would be the worst of my problems in the first trimester. How wrong I was! Puking up was almost fun in comparison to days spent desperately trying not to fall asleep at my desk, without even a very strong black coffee to perk me up.

I also used to be very active and on the go. I was in training for a marathon when I became upduffed and was used to getting up in the morning, running 4/5 miles before work, doing a full day at work and then going to the pub/cinema/whatever. However, the tiredness then hit me like a steamroller and the best I could do was get out of bed 30 mins before I left the house, and then sleep on the sofa the minute I got in from work. Getting up only to eat my tea, I should add, before going to bed.

I know it's scant comfort at the moment, but it WILL pass. I'm 23 weeks now and feeling just about back to normal. The tiredness started getting better at about 10 weeks and, by 14 weeks, had pretty much gone.
Good luck!

Its normal!
I've always been so tired during the first trimester - falling asleep as soon as I would get home from work with no energy to do anything.

Just make sure you keep taking your vits and some extra iron if you need it later as lack of iron will make you tired. Try spatone which is more exp but natural water high in iron and is more gentle than iron tablets.

I'm 24 weeks and have been feeling better and nore energetic since about 14 weeks.

Yep, normal I'm afraid. With my DD, I used to get in from work & fall asleep. Wake up for dinner. Go to bed & sleep. It does improve with the 2nd trimester, although I'm now 20wks with #2 & find some days the exhaustion returns & even washing up is too tiring, so I lie on.the sofa while DD watches DVDs plays Blush

thanks all for sharing your experiences, felt like i was going slowly mad! Reassured its not just me, feeling a bit of a failure just now for not being able to keep it together :( its a massive shock to your system when energy has been in constant supply for all of my life til now!! I suppose all these hormones have a bit to do with feeling low as well!! Roll on the next few weeks when hopefully these feelings will pass!!
