Panicking about stillbirth!

I am 36 plus 5 and have just been to see the MW. I have had 2 GTT tests before - one came back borderline, the other clear but I have had glucose in my urine throughout. MW has referred me back to hospital because of risks of stillbirth. I am not due at hospital until Monday and am panicking. Last week, my consultant said I would start insulin injections if glucose continued, but I am only 2 weeks away from a booked CS! MW thinks they will do CS early. Any thoughts? Anything I can do in the meantime to help the glucose situation? Btw, I do not over-indulge in sugar consumption!

Wow what a worry for you. I really have no advice other than if you are worried at all about anything don't hesitate to call the hospital midwife team.

Hope all goes well for you.

(hope someone comes along with some advice soon!)

They are just being ultra cautious OP as they always are with women in late pregnancy. Just put yourself in their hands and trust them. I have another condition which slightly increases risk of still birth and they will induce me at 38 weeks.

Please try not to panic, they have diagnosed a problem and they will deal with it. It sounds as if you're borderline for gestational diabetes if the GTTs have come back clear. If you're really worried or notice any difference in movement of the baby then call the hospital, go in and get monitored and raise your concerns then. Maybe talk to them anyway to ask if you can start the insulin injections early. The risk is very low anyway and properly managed as it will be it goes back to virtually the same as any normal pregnancy.

I know its an awful feeling but you have to keep believing it

Thank you so much for your kind, comforting words! I am miraculously, naturally, pregnant after being told we had a 2% chance through IVF. This comes 15 yrs later after first trying for a baby and one adopted child later which compounds and seems to magnify my concerns!

was in your position a couple of years ago, if your just borderline then i would imagine your glucose levels are around 7?....its not just sugary things that can increase glucose levels its carbohydrates too as in white bread, pies, any pastry pasta etc also any products that are stated as low fat actually have more sugar in them than full fat products....you can check labels regarding carbohydrates ususally reads as carbohydrates of which are sugars, rule of thumb is if this reading is 10 or above per 100g then diabetics should avoid them, wholemeal bread is very good at lowing glucose levels, i did have to go on insulin injections 5 weeks before dd was born, i had a natural birth 3 days early and dd was perfect 7lbs her own blood sugar levels were a little lower than they should of been due to me taking insulin but 4 feeds later her levels were back up....good luck dont panic xx

Hi Tigger was just wondering how you were feeling today. Hope you're a bit calmer and baby seems to be alright. Not long now until Monday but remember if you're at all worried don't hesitate just call them and ask to be monitored

I had diabetes in pregnancy only and they say if it goes untreated (and I mean ridiculously unthreaded not borderline) then if left long enough the sugar can effect the baby!!

Midwfie and diabetic nurse had worked for
30 years and she had never seen it!!

My baby was measuring HUGE because of the sugar!

Please try not to worry they do like to scare the poop out of you!

Hi there! Thanks so much for thinking of me. I have just, kind of, got on with the weekend but what has relaxed me has been the fact that the baby has been very active, although a little quieter today. Will let you know how things pan out on Monday.

Good luck for tomorrow

How did things go Tigger? Hope it was reassuring

tigger8 · 10/07/2012 04:14

Well, it is early morning and I am lying here contemplating my last day of pregnancy! Yes, you've got it, I am having my CS tomorrow! Nicely aching leg, after having steroid injection to aid baby's lungs, positioned carefully over pregnancy pillow! Wow! Excitement and apprehension makes for a heady mix. 15 yrs in the making and tomorrow I achieve my dream! Just waiting to wake up from this surreal experience. This can't be happening to me, naturally, after years of treatment, at 40!! I think I need to say a few prayers and offere a few 'thank yous'!!
