Hi

I'm 38 and have been trying for a baby for 5 years we have just undergone Ivf treatment and I'm now 12 weeks gone. Yesterday we went for a private 12 week scan but the results came back 1in 4 chance of downs.
The nuchal translucency behind neck came back as 3.8, bladder size 12.8 megacystis plus baby has a leak in the heart.

Were going back today for a cvs and should get the results on Friday but things arent looking good..
Been crying all night and am in a complete mess

Can anyone shed any light

X

Hi Coxy

Just wanted to say that many people have found ARC (www.arc-uk.org/) helpful in making their decisions. They will listen and can offer factual information.

If you want to speak to people who have been through it, there are people on the Antenatal Tests and Choices board who have had a diagnosis of Downs. Some have chosen to terminate, some have chosen to continue the pregnancy.

I am so so sorry you have this difficult choice to make especially after your long struggle to get pregnant.

xx

Hi Coxy,

My bro had DS, there are four siblings and we all loved him far far more than each other! He was so funny, kind, a wonderful character and he had no health probs at all with heart etc, he had a tendancy to put on weight and eat but that was just him, he played snooker, was a member of RHS and loved gardening, had a job, went to the pub on his own for a few pints every night - loved eastenders, james bond....

people sometimes say people with DS cant live forfilling lives but compared to some people you here of with " a full range of faculties" he did alot more than them!

the biggest problem for my mum was who to look after him after she had passed away...that was her biggest worry as she got older, but in day to day life, everything was fine and we all had a very rewarding relationship with him. when he was younger i believe he ran off alot....

If my DD is diagnosed at birth with DS I will also be crying my eyes out - but less scared as I know about the conditon and know more about what to expect, if my DD had any other condition - i will be crapping myself and v scared.

Its very natural. whatever you do dont feel guilty, dont panic. research....
