bfp at home but doc says negative

When I say bfp I mean faint but clear +ve since last Friday (4 tests). The sample I dropped off at the doctors yesterday has come back negative.

I have a history of miscarriages so is it possible that I was PG but am not anymore and just waiting for it to happen? Having said tested today and still +ve but faint.

I don't feel I can rely on other symptoms as I have known myself to imagine them!

Did the doctor do a blood test? I'd ask them to check your beta hcg levels. Good luck.

BangOffTrend · 03/07/2012 13:50

No, never occured to me as urine always worked in the past.
I'll wait a few days to see if MC happening and then get a blood test.
Thanks.

About 8.6 years ago I thought I might be pregnant, BFN, no period. Doctor did a blood test, was also negative. Two days later, BFP on a home pg test. She was 8 yesterday Grin

BangOffTrend · 03/07/2012 13:56

Nice one 4000 Holes.

The waiting game continues here.

in my experience the docs tests aren't v sensitive, they're the same as ebay cheapies. I only had a "faint positive" at the docs when I was having strong +ives.

if they are saying you had a MMC then they really should test HCg, but NOT once, one result does not say either way, you need em done every other day to tell if they're rising or falling. In the early days my doc just did one and told me I wasn't pregnant, just had 12wk scan and I very much am!

Clarella · 03/07/2012 15:01

I had exactly the same - didn't get a positive at docs at until a test 9 days after my missed period, the one I had 3 days after was inconclusive (the doctor warned me i might be disappointed but I did it as my tests were so dark) - I had had bfps since 3 days before my expected period.

It's that horrible waiting game, fingers crossed for you x

BangOffTrend · 03/07/2012 15:38

Interesting. You'd think the docs would have access to the same sensitive cheapies we get online.
They're not saying anything about a MMC. It is just me who would not be suprised to be heading towards one.
Will ask for bloods and drop off another sample next week.

can you get to a pound shop and get some less sensitive cheapies to do daily to see if the lines are increasing?

Marne · 03/07/2012 15:42

The home testing kits are as good as (if not better) than the gp ones, i would say you are pg, test again in a few days and hopfully you will get a clearer line.

BangOffTrend · 03/07/2012 16:03

Already using mega cheapies from amazon but running low! Line is very definite, comes up quickly, just faint.
Will do everyday as you suggest to see if line goes away.

or do a digital one, you can't argue with "pregnant" can you?

Clarella · 03/07/2012 16:52

I would say it is positive but yes, just keep watching and waiting. Fingers crossed!

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 03/07/2012 16:52

PS> was the urine you gave your DR a morning sample?

Clarella · 03/07/2012 16:54

I did digital before the first docs test and it said 4 weeks+ -was definately reassuring despite the 'inconclusive' docs test!

BangOffTrend · 03/07/2012 17:33

Thanks all. Fairly certain I am or was PG just miffed that doc's test isn't picking it up. Anyway, have pains in tum all the time so prob will end same as the others. Sigh.

bangoftrend I am 28 weeks and had a lot of cramping at first and also the Dr told me the test was -ve after 5 +ve home pregnancy tests. In the end I took a digital one into the DR and asked for a blood test if he didn't believe me. Please stay positive if you can, I know it must be hard Sad. Keeping everything crossed for you.

BangOffTrend · 04/07/2012 09:33

Thanks. Under strict instructions from DH not to shout at the DCs no matter what as gives me terrible womb ache and trying to keep relaxed about the PG.
Cramping could be usual stretching as you say ShouldI. Glad all is hunky dory with you.
The thing is I'd like to make an appointement at the EPU for early scan for reassurance and also dating as away most of Aug and worried about missing the nuchal scan window if we are lucky enough to get that far. Would not be funny to turn up only for them to find nothing there.

The doctor's test may not be as good as the one you've used.

Benaberry · 04/07/2012 13:53

I had this when pg with DS1 six years ago - loads of positive hpts, but docs came back negative until just after 6 weeks. Was told that apparently theirs weren't as sensitive as the Clearblue's I'd been using at home, but they wouldn't refer me to midwife or start the ball rolling until they'd had their own test show positive. Although I had some bleeding and ended up with early scans it thankfully had a happy ending in DS1's safe arrival.

This time around, for some reason, they didn't even insist on doing their own test (same GP practice), just took my word for it and did everything straight off!

Fingers crossed it's a happy outcome for you - the cramps could just as easily be stretching as you say, which is very normal, but I know how worrying it can be, especially if the docs don't "believe" you...

BangOffTrend · 05/07/2012 12:57

Good news, sample came back from doc positive this am. Maybe was too soon for their test.
Now the waiting begins in earnest.

Try clearblue digital (buy a double packet as it is not much more expensive than a single packet). My GP told me there are more accurate than the ones they use. Otherwise as for ablood test. False positive sare apparently more rare than false negatives BUT some things can give a false positive- such as recent pregnancy, and fertility treatment.

Flimflammery · 05/07/2012 13:07

Fantastic news! Congratulations!

Clarella · 05/07/2012 13:52

Hurrah! Congratualtions!

Yes now it really begins... ! Best wishes x
