No amniotic fluid at 25 weeks

Hi this is not my issue but someone I know at work had ivf ( she has had a previous ectopic) - but congenital heart problems were detected at the scans ( tho does not appear to be a chromosomal disorder). The pulmonary artery serving the lungs came from the aorta rather than being separate. This in itself might have been sorted but later on, she started to present with little amniotic fluid and now she has none. I heard the other day she'd been taken into hospital (I don't know the circumstances other than she was unsure if the baby would survive - not sure if the baby has actually been born yet). We have been on the pregnancy journey together at work so as you can imagine this is fairly upsetting for her and I feel well bad for her ( ESP as our other colleague also announced the same day the birth of her healthy 10 pounder). I wondered if anyone had any stories on this topic and if she has any hope of a positive outcome. The other day she told me she didn't expect a miracle now and was just letting nature take its course (the last was baby was being compressed due to no amniotic fluid, concerns over whether lungs would be developed enough, baby growing but not developing). It does sound hopeless ( question mark over kidney function - some sonographers said look fine and some said not sure).

I'm very sorry to hear this. My only experience, I'm sad to say is not good. A friend had a similar issue re little to no amniotic fluid picked up at the 20 week scan. It turned out that the baby had no kidneys and was incompatible with life. She therefore didn't continue with the pregnancy.

As I understand it from her, the lack of kidneys meant that little to no amniotic fluid was being made and that had a knock on effect with lung development and a host of other issues. Therefore, even if there had been anything that could have been done re the lack of kidneys, which there wasn't, then the baby's lung development basically hadn't happened which would precluded any happy outcome.

I'm so sorry for your colleague and very sorry that I don't have a happier story.

Sadly the baby did not make it!
