Where to give birth?! UCLH v.s Chelsea & Westminster

I am not sure which hospital to choose for my first birth. I live near UCLH and this was my option but I will be moving to West London and I have the option to move to Chelsea & Westminster. Any one have previous experiences in either of them?

I have heard mixed experiences of C&W but only good things of UCLH. Is there a big difference in journey time from your new home?

Well! It?s not very far so should be commutable. What negative things did you hear about C&W?

Also do you know by any chance if they allow partners to stay in amenity rooms overnight?! My husband feels strongly that he wants to be around all the time and we are on a tight budget.

Being honest, I can't remember exactly! Blush I think it's generally been the post birth bit.

I am under C&W and have had an excellent experience, the care has been fantastic. I had placenta previa and was in hospital for a month before delivering at 30 weeks due to APH. I was really well looked after, and my little one has been in NICU for 5 weeks now and the care has also been excellent.

The post natal ward is a little bit busier than the other wards, and they do get you in and out of there fairly quickly, and some nurses aren't as sensitive as maybe they maybe should be to hormonal tired post-labour women, but I'd still recommend them, however I have no experience of UCLH to compare it too.

In the labour ward they do let partners stay with you, and there's no visiting restrictions, and on other wards partners can visit longer than other visitors, but on post natal ward there is a strict afternoon no-visitors rest period, where even partners aren't able to come in.

postnatal in uch i think partners can stay with you if you are in a private room, well when i had my ds1 there (which was a while ago 4 years yesterday!) my friend was there at the same time and she had a private room and had no restrictions on visiting hours either for her husband or even for friends she could have whoever she wanted at whatever time because her room was private (she did not even have to pay for the room, its just that it was in the birth centre)
i dont know anyone who has had baby in c&w as far as i know, but my first 2 i had both of them in uch and can not really fault them there i was v happy both times

Thanks a lot ladies! All this is very helpful :) .. I am meeting my midwife on Thursday and will probably discuss with her. I'll ask about the private room costs in UCH as I found out in C&W website 'in one of the videos' that its about £250 'Way too expensive for me!'

UCL all the way (had my kids there).
They have great doctors in case you might need.
I stayed on the regular postnatal ward and yes, it is busy, I enjoyed staying there. I felt well looked after and the place is pretty new.
