SPD and yoga

Can anyone tell me whether its ok for me to do yoga if I have just been diagnosed with SPD? Trying to contact yoga teacher but she is away at the moment and we have to book onto 5 sessions at a time (which I don't want to do if it is going to make it worse).
Hoping for home delivery so was banking on the yoga for techniques etc

Having had SPD in the past I can't really imagine doing anything other than the basics of getting from A-B Smile.

On a more serious note though, I don't have any experience of yoga but realise that some yoga teachers are qualified to teach yoga in pregnancy classes. Whether this would be OK for SPD or not I'm not sure.

I started doing pilates about 8 months post-natally. My instructor was aware that I'd had it and that I was still getting twinges so was very alert to advising me during classes as to what to do/not to do.

I would just make sure that the instructor is qualified to advise you so you don't make the condition any worse. How far gone are you?

Sorry to invade this thread, but what does SPD feel like. I've had chronic back ache for the last few days (I'm only 6 wks) and tingly feeling in my pubic bone. I didn't have it with DS.

I am 29 weeks and think I have had it for a while, it became unbearable on holiday (you know, the holiday you are meant to take to make the most of your pregnancy)I was nearly weeping just getting in and out of the car.
My initial thought is to give the yoga a miss but as I say I would really like a home birth and more importantly I went out and bought a mat!!
Missmibaby, not sure if its the same for everyone or not but for example, I can't move my legs side ways, my aquafit midwife told me to keep my legs shut last night (if only I'd thought about that 7 months ago Blush)I find it difficult getting out of bed, standing up if I have been sitting for a while. Some days it is excrutiating and having read some stuff on here I think I am lucky so far that its not worse.
Am getting my girdle (£33!) this week.
If you are concerned I would ask your midwife, I wish I had earlier.

fenny -personally I think I'd give the yoga a miss. It sounds as if the SPD is gettiing quite bad and you've still got a while to go.

Missmibaby -if you do some searches in the current and archive threads on here you'll find a lot of info on SPD and tips on how to avoid making it any worse. I didn't have it in my first pregnancy but did in my second. The first thing I was aware of were aches and discomfort around the pubic area.

Heres a current thread on \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=49&threadid=145142&stamp=060228153737\SPD} if you want to join them and share experiences.
