I had high bp and protein traces when I had my 38 week check. I had a hospital check this morning and the midwife was concerned about the size of the baby too. After monitoring, bp being all over the shop and my veins being 'terrible' apparently I have to stay in hospital and inductions are being discussed.

I'd prepared myself for labour or a c section. Why didn't I prepare for induction? Poor DH is so worried.

Hi

I was induced with my first after labour didn't progress well. It wasn't very different from what I was already experencing with labour. I did end up having an epidural though I hadn't planned too but by this point I had been at it a long time and was very fed up with pain. Induction was alittle more intense, but then my labour wasn't progressing so probably wasn't intense anyway... the epidural was very helpful to me personally by that point.

I think it can be a bit of a waiting game if they induce when you aren't already in labour, but quite quick once it all actually starts.

Just ask loads of questions, tell them you haven't looked into induction and you want to know how to mentally prepare yourself. Keep asking them to explain stuff, the more knowledge you and DH have, the more you will feel in control and the less worried you will be.

Good luck, you will be fine and soon you will have your baby in your arms! Just think of that

How exciting :)

Induction is fine. I have had it twice.
In my first pregnancy the induction took three days. It took three days to get the cervix soft, so they could break the waters. I had time prepapre myself to the looming induction. The labour itself took only four hours and was painless, because of epidural. I was overdue and baby was born 41+6.

My second induction at 37 weeks was because of high BP and proteins in urine etc. I was wheeled to labour ward for induction straight away after the doctor had examined me, so I could not prepare myself at all. This time they break waters after 9 hours and the labour was even shorter, two hours :)

I haven't had natural birth, and I was hoping to get one this time. I was a little bit disappointed.

Thank you mrs wee. I've just been reading up as much as I can. Doesn't seem real! I was in work yesterday, hospital today! And at least I can have an epidural here :)

:). I had the same feeling. I thought my second one is going to overdue as well and actually if she would have been born 41+6 she would have born today! Not almost five weeks ago!

Ta bansku. Its so good to hear other people's experiences. My friend had an horrendous time when induction failed several times. I need to remember that everyone is different.

I was induced for high BP/pre-eclampsia with my first. It was fine in the early stages but then the baby wasn't doing very well so I had a syntocinon drip and my waters were broken artificially to speed things up. That hurt! I've got it written on my birth plan this time that if I need anything other than a pessary I want an epidural first.

mrswee · 30/06/2012 18:26

I would second that the syntocinon drip is powerful, that's what I had as labour had already started so no pessary just straight on to syntocinon.
I was offered an epidural straight off as they know it is a more intense experiance. I attempted without but pretty quickly changed my mind. It was fine after that, just got on with it really.

You may not need syntocinon though, many don't as the pessary just starts a natural labour.

I've just woken up with really strong cramps
and an upset stomach. I've been given cocodomol which hasn't helped. Are braxton hicks this painful???
