MISCARRIAGE RISK- measles/ chicken pox???

DS felt a bit poorly last night with a fever and oh noticed he had a couple of spots on his neck. This morning he has fever (hot and looks positively green) and is covered in them. I'm seven weeks pregnant and now there is a miscarriage risk if you get measles/ chicken pox. I can't remember if I've had them before and know once they get spots they aren't contagious any more. I've already (obviously) been around ds a lot. Any ideas of the risk anyone?

There is a risk, yes. I am not sure of how an immunity would help here or not. I'd call NHS direct if I were you ASAP, and possibly see if DH or you Mum could nurse DS through this particular bug.

Hope all turns out well. x

I don't know what the actual risk level is i'm afraid but if you're concerned call your out of hours gp - ds1 got chicken pox when I was 36wks with ds2 and the gp advised me to get a blood test done to check my antibody levels and said if they weren't high enough they could give me a vaccine straight away. I don't know if it's the same for measles.

Meant to add - I had the blood test done the same day ds1 was diagnosed and got the result within a couple of hours so it can be done quickly.

There is a risk, it is unlikely to be measles as he would have been vaccinated (and it's pretty rare these days). You would most likely either have been vaccined or already had it so I would worry less about that.

Chicken pox is a risk to your baby. The spots are very distinctive, they look like fluid filled blisters. It is likely that you had it as a child but you can pop to your gp for a blood test (and have him look at your little boy).

Thanks for advice folks. It's chicken pox and as I've had it as a child, I'll be immune. Just concentrating on looking after my poorly boy now.
