Am off out on a river cruise tomorrow eve and am 6.5 weeks pg and feel spotty, bloated and my legs look awful (extra cellulite?)! I really need to do something to make me look a bit more glam as (let's face it) the lack of drinking and the bloating are going to get everyone guessing as it is. So is it OK to use a bit of Jolene on my face (the hair seems to have got darker/more apparent all of a sudden) and some fake tan on my legs?

Oh and is it normal to have such a spotty neck/chest? didn't get this last time I'm sure, but it looks hideous and I've got a dress with a low cut neckline too Sad

The joys eh? Grin

oh I dont know the answer but would be keen to here if anyone else knows - I use hair lightener too but haven't dared use it, my hair also got darker - very attractive!

Your skin is way more sensitive during pregnancy, so both of these CAN be used but you may get a funny reaction. I fake tanned my legs using my normal tan while pg and got a lovely purple tinge to my legs Hmm
Bleach I'd definitely do a patch test before using even if you've used it plenty of times before.

Oh, and no idea about spotty neck/chest, my forehead has never looked so awful tho as when I was pregnant, spots and dry skin, it was horrible!!!

Hair bleach would prob be ok as, I presume, it's a small area done infrequently. I would personally avoid fake tan as you are covering a large area and it is designed to seep into your skin differently from facial bleach.

When I was pregnant I used Benefit Jiffy Tan which is like body make-up that you wash off - was very good.

You can use fake tan but be careful of having the spray kind because of the fumes. Cream is fine according to the NHS website - but look out cause I woke up this morning for my friend's wedding looking like an extra from TOWIE and I used exactly the same stuff as I normally do!

I would maybe test a small area but I'm sure it's fine, just do it in a ventilated area so you're not inhaling fumes. I've used hair removal creams.

I fake tanned through my last pregnancy and have done so in this one too. If you're worried maybe do a wash off instant one on your legs as that is just like make up? (let's hope for dry weather!)
You need to make yourself feel better during pregnancy- it's an unflattering time and we feel self conscious. Taking time to paint nails etc makes me feel a bit more normal/attractive so I say get pampering Grin

Ps early on I had a few spots on my chest and back, you are not alone

I used Jolen when I was pg. Don't know about fake tan. But do know some people's skin cam change and become sensitive during pg. I have rhino skin lol, so it didn't effect me.
Try a small test patch on your skin b4 hand.

Thanks for all your replies. I took the risk and did the bleaching and all seems to be fine. Am a bit more wary about the fake tan just in case it goes hideously wrong and I end up orange. Maybe tights might be a better option as it's not so warm today!!

As for the spots, I think i need to get some serously good concealer Grin

Curly I did the bleach as well, I forgot all about being pg till I read this thread a few minutes later. That's when it clicked about the crazy tan too, although I had researched that beforehand!

Elpis · 29/06/2012 18:34

I use Dove self-tan as it builds up gradually and you don't go orange. It's also quite cheap. Apply it a couple of times and you'll have a bit of colour. Never occurred to me not to use it while pregnant! I find painting my toenails makes me feel a bit more chic, but only worth the bother if you're going open-toed.

Have a good time!
