"oh I shouldn't think so. It's a bit early for that."

Whenever I tell her about my latest annoying pregnancy symptom that's getting me down?!

For example this week I am hobbling around like an old granny due to shooting pains in my butt cheek which my MW said were probably sciatic nerve pain due to things moving and stretching (am 17 weeks).

But oh no I must be imagining it as she valiantly sailed through pregnancy with nary a niggle Angry.

More to the point, why do I always forget that my mother has a habit of being an unsympathetic old cow??

Rant over!

How annoying! It definitely isn't too early for that, in fact I had that more in mid pregnancy than at the end. Not very sympathetic of herAngry

Ah, the joy of hindsight. I bet your dh never pooed on the carpet, puked in her hair, snottered on the vicar or threw a gigantic tantrum in the butchers either Wink

Oops, sorry, Mother not MIL Blush

Well clearly you were the little angel who gave her nary a moment of grief then!

If it helps my mother is equally as annoying. She offered me beer a few weeks ago and then said 'women have been having babies for hundreds of years before everyone started to say don't drink this that or the other so I wouldn't listen to what they say'.
She also has a habit of telling me every story she hears/ knows about mc and people dying etc which is the absolute last thing you want to hear.
She also refused to come and see dd1 when she had chicken pox stating that she didn't want to catch shingles. I told her that the nhs, bupa and the doctor all confirmed that you cannot catch shingles from someone with chicken pox but she knew better.
Then she keeps saying 'are you sure it's not twins?' and 'you won't last another five weeks' because she thinks I'm big.
Just really bugs me that she thinks she knows better than everyone else including me (my body), midwives, doctors, the whole medical community...

Purple, you've got me in stitches now about OP's DH going around to his MIL's house to poo on her carpet!

Smile and nod OP. My mother is like this, much worse after the baby arrived. I just stopped giving her an opening for it. As far as she is concerned DS is an angel and motherhood is a blissful bubble for me.

Oh no! At 17 weeks I was getting the beginnings of what I think is SPD (MW next week) so it's definitely not too early for aches and pains. I've had the tales of stillbirth/mc woe from SIL though Hmm which I found a just plain bizarre thing to discuss with a pregoo. Ignore ignore ignore!

starfishmummy · 27/06/2012 08:20

I think it is just one of those things that whenever anyone is pregnant, those who have already had kids like to come out with their stories!!

Helmondo · 27/06/2012 08:27

I had sciatica from about 10 weeks onwards with dd2

I know it's annoying but did she have fairly 'easy' pregnancies? I know some people who did and they kept saying it couldn't possibly be 'that bad'! Angry

If its at all possible, just ignore the comments, and you deffinitely have my sympathies, I had SPD for the last 10 weeks as well!

PurplePidjin · 27/06/2012 08:38

Starfish, they so do! I'm fully aware that a. This is only really interesting to me and b. It's incredibly rude to talk about yourself all the time, yet conversations till frequently work their way back to me and my pregnancy. I mean in places like knit and natter, where there's a large group of people with diverse interests, not close friends and family humouring me! Hmm

my mother enjoys telling me how little weight she put on. my dad also told me a coup of weeks ago (presently 25 weeks) that i am bigger than my mum was when she gave birth!!
