I know pregnancy is shattering as this is my 3rd dc but I just feel like I am more tired than I should be. Yesterday I got up at 7 took the children to school came home and slept for an hour at about 10.30 - could have slept more but had things I had to do. Went to bed at 7.30 and slept until 7 this morning, I feel like a zombie still and could quite happily nod off again now! I work for our own business at home and I don't have time to keep sleeping! My iron levels at booking in were over 13 and my diet hasn't changed so is it very likely to be an iron issue?
Anyone else around 24 weeks feeling the same? Its a few years since I was pregnant and I can't really remember how I felt at this point.
I am worried that there I something wrong. :-(

It could be iron - mine were fine at booking and ay 25 they'd slipped to 10.5 - you can request a test from your MW :)

" by 25", d'oh!

It could just simply be that you're pregnant!!

I know I have been shattered throughout most of mine so far - Im currently 28 weeks and could sleep for England!! The 1st 3 months or so I was really tired and kept falling asleep during the day (very unlike me). It got slightly better between around 14 - 22 weeks or so but since then, I have felt very tired again.
I think carrying the extra weight is certainly taking its toll (I get out of breath walking upstairs!) and Im easily getting in around 10 hours sleep a night (and could sleep for longer given the chance).
I doubt it is anything to worry about and just simply goes with the territory though if you are worried, speak to your midwife or doc.

Thanks for your replies, i have since spoken to the midwife and she has said it does sound like pregnancy is just taking its toll and i should just rest when i need to. I always feel guilty doing this as there is always so much to do. She says i am not a spring chicken anymore (yeah thanks for that, i am 33!) She also suggested doing some exercise and she will check my iron at next app!

Littlecherublegs - i am so with you on the out of breath walking upstairs - we live in a reverse living house and tesco just came and i wish i hadnt ordered so much as i had to lug it all up to the kitchen! Sorry to hear you are shattered too, I think you are right though - its just joy of pregnancy!

Breathlessness can also be a symptom of iron deficiency, btw - glad you're getting it tested :)

sparklestar · 26/06/2012 13:57

oh thanks fluffyjawsofdoom, i didnt know that. :)

No I didnt know that either though my iron levels are and have always been fine.
I definitely think for me the triedness and breathlessness is carrying the extra weight and growing a baby!!
I have started swimming which is really good - great exercise though it takes the weight off so is easier to do than some other types of sports / exercise.
Im trying to rest when I can but as you say, there is usually something to do and I find it hard to do nothing!
Need to make the most of the rest time now though I guess before the bundle comes along! Smile

Could you persuade the midwife to check your thyroid as well? pregnancy can sometimes set off underactive thyroid which can make you knackered.

It's probably just the effort of growing a person though!

vixreyland · 26/06/2012 18:12

It sounds like you are super woman managing to do all that you do! I am 26 weeks now and have been feeling life less for a while too, iron levels were low so started iron tablets which helped a bit! Still feel like a zombie most days though so am guessing that's just the joys of pregnancy! Lol
hope you feel better soon :)

ShushBaby · 26/06/2012 21:10

If it is low iron levels can I recommend Spatone? It's a natural iron supplement, a sachet of v iron rich water that you mix with juice. It bloody well saved my life (felt like!) after I had dd, and has no nasty digestive side-effects like iron tablets can.

vixreyland · 27/06/2012 19:33

I have never heard of spatone but will be looking for it now! Thanks for that tip! :)
