Would my GP give a sick note for this?

Hi,

My due date is 31st July and I am due to start Maternity Leave on the 16th July.
I am having real difficulties controlling my mood swings at work and am worried I might blow up at a colleague, client or (heaven forbid) my boss! I am honestly much less distressed when I am at home in a calm environment.

Do you think a GP would give me a sick note for the last 2 and a half weeks I have left? I am really completely mental at the moment and it probably isn't appropriate in a workplace.

I believe that if you are off work with pregnancy related illness in the last four weeks of your pregnancy your employer can insist you start maternity leave immediately. This is certainly the case for teachers. You should probably check that part out first just in case - unless you'd rather finish now instead.

As far as I understand, springflowers is correct. I think your employer would have to start your mat leave.

Yes, you would have to start your maternity leave earlier.

Starting Mat leave would be perfect :) Just wondering whether a doctor would be likely to be understanding or if I'd get kicked into touch and told to get on with it

Of course they would be understanding. Your mental health is just as important as your physical health.

Cheers daintynuts. I'll give it a go when the surgery opens in the morning :)
