eyesight affected by pregnancy?

I'm short-sighted and wear glasses. My eyes are feeling really tired at the moment, especially at the end of the day. Maybe my eyesight has got worse, but a friend told me that sometimes water retention affects the eyes during pregnancy, making vision blurry... anyone have any experience of this? I don't want to go to optician and get new glasses if it's only temporary!

I ordinarily have very good vision, but I remember having quite blurry eyesight in my first pregnancy from sometime after 20 weeks. I went to see the optician, not thinking it was pregnancy related, and it apparently is. In fact, I was told that opticians won't do eye tests during pregnancy because of this. It went back to normal a few weeks after having DD.

I second what Spoutlet posted.

I had the same thing too. All back to normal within weeks of DS turning up.

I found this on bounty.com: If you are experiencing blurry vision, don?t panic, some pregnant women experience this due to water retention. It usually sorts itself out after the birth and can be helped with exercise but always tell your midwife or doctor if you?re worried.

I have also read in several other places that your vision can be affected in pregnancy so I don't think it's anything to worry about.

I second what Spoutlet said. I also found that my eyes got very dry at the same time which made my vision worse. Eye drops helped but not all types can be used in pregnancy for some reason.

My dr told me that your lenses change shape in pregnancy. I had to get glasses for driving when I was pregnant first time, straight after I had dd I couldn't focus on anything Shock it was horrible. Apparently my eyes are all back to normal now but my brain hasn't registered that do I still need the glasses Hmm

Bloody hell, this is both reassuring and annoying! Nearly twenty more weeks of tired eyes. Argh! Thanks everyone :-)
