Trapped wind - what can I try?

I'm 17 weeks pregnant with number 3 and constantly have the feeling like I need to burp, but can't get it out. I assume it is trapped wind or/and upward pressue on stomach and diaphragm. It is worst when I lie down to sleep or rest and I have to keep sitting up to try and get a burp to come up.

I've tried peppermint tea, but haven't noticed much improvement. Any other ideas? I'm getting fed up with it and still have a long way to go!

Have you tried windeeze or deflatine? I'm 14+2 and it's all I ate for the first 6 weeks. Grin Other than than, continually (approx 6 hours a night) rubbing my belly in a circular motion works!

I'd recommend a long, boring meeting where you can't get out of your seat and leave easily. That usually gets everything moving for me Confused

Farting?

Sorry... Couldn't resist! I was going to say Peppermint tea but I see you've already tried it. My sympathies, trapped wind is horrible.

Windeze and deflatine are your friends. They are ace. Probably not so ace for those around you though! :-)

I find gentle walking while rubbing your stomach in a circular pattern is very helpful. If it is needing to burp make sure you sit upright. If you need to fart though, it's bum in the air. Sometimes I find having a few sips of something fizzy helps me to burp when things are trapped, but for other people it just makes it worse. I hope you are soon feeling better.

This will sound ridiculous but trust me...get on all fours and wag your bum like a dog wags its tail. That should help. Also lying on your left side should help things along!

Yep had that! Soooo painful! Pharmacist was funny about what I could have but allowed me gaviscon. Moving and running helped as described above. Took longer than usual to clear though and needed to take paracetamol for the pain. Get well soon!

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 25/06/2012 15:28

The way you describe pressure makes it sound more like heartburn/acid indigestion than just wind - try some Gaviscon? When I get heartburn it just feels like I have something stuck in my throat iykwim, and is worse when lying down :)

Thanks for the suggestions and sympathy. It is definitely the top end that it's trapped. (Coming out nicely from the other end ;-)

I wasn't sure if you could take Deflatine in preganancy, so that will be worth a try. I'm sat here rubbing my tummy in circles while I wait for the kettle to boil for ANOTHER peppermint tea...

I guess it is good practice for winding a newborn!
